Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh Stringer.

Josh Stringer

Josh, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey in photography began at a young age. I started by assisting my mother, who was a passionate photographer and her mentor, when I was just eight years old. Through their guidance, I was introduced to the world of photography, learning the basics of composition, lighting, and storytelling.

As the years went by, my passion for photography only grew stronger. I was constantly seeking opportunities to learn and improve my skills. I devoured books, attended workshops, and practiced tirelessly to refine my craft. I knew that to succeed in such a competitive industry, I had to distinguish myself.

In my pursuit of excellence, I faced challenges and setbacks, but I never let them deter me. Even when I became homeless, I pressed onward and loved out of my car, still ever learning and refining my skills. I was determined to work with some of the best professionals in the industry, and I wasn’t afraid to put in the hard work required. I reached out to established photographers, seeking mentorship and even assisting them on shoots whenever possible. This hands-on experience exposed me to various photography styles and techniques, and I absorbed every bit of knowledge.

Over time, my dedication and perseverance began to pay off. I started to gain recognition. My unique approach to capturing moments and telling stories through my lens caught the eye of both clients and peers.

Today, I am proud to say that my journey has led me to a place where I can truly call myself a professional photographer. I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with some of the top talents in the industry, creating stunning visuals that resonate with audiences. While I’ve achieved a level of success, I remain humble and hungry for continuous growth. Photography is a never-ending learning process, and I am excited to see where my passion and dedication will take me next.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely, my journey has been far from smooth. As any pro will tell you, nothing worth having comes easy. Along the way, I encountered numerous struggles that tested my determination and resilience.

One significant challenge I faced was financial instability. Pursuing a career in photography often meant irregular income, which led to periods of financial strain. There were times when I had to juggle multiple jobs to make ends meet while continuing to invest in my passion for photography.

I also experienced moments of self-doubt and insecurity. The industry’s competitiveness and ever-evolving trends sometimes made me question my abilities. Overcoming these doubts required constant self-assessment and a strong belief in my unique creative vision.

Maintaining a work-life balance was another hurdle. The demands of freelancing and building a career often meant sacrificing personal time and social interactions. This isolation could be challenging, as it sometimes felt like a lonely pursuit.

Additionally, the path to success involved facing rejection and setbacks. Not every opportunity panned out as I hoped, and rejection letters and missed gigs were part of the journey. Each setback, however, served as a lesson in perseverance and adaptability.

In retrospect, while these struggles were difficult, they shaped me into a more resilient and determined photographer. They taught me to value every small victory, learn from failures, and continue pushing forward. The challenges I’ve overcome have become an integral part of my story, reminding me that the journey is as important as the destination.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in a range of photography genres, including on-set unit photos, captivating portraits, headshots that capture personalities, and engaging celebrity work. My versatile skill set allows me to effectively navigate various scenarios and bring out the essence of my subjects.

In the city of Atlanta, I’ve become known for my on-set work, capturing unit stills and shooting galleries that help market the projects and behind-the-scenes moments that tell a story of their own. Additionally, my skill in creating striking headshots and portraits has earned recognition, both from clients and peers.

What I’m most proud of is my journey from humble beginnings. Unlike many in the industry, I didn’t have the privilege of a creative family or a supportive network. I carved my own path, overcoming obstacles and financial hardships to pursue my passion relentlessly.

What sets me apart is my unwavering commitment to growth. I’m not afraid to adapt and evolve with the ever-changing landscape of photography. I’ve had the privilege of learning from mentors who’ve imparted invaluable insights, and I consider it a responsibility to educate the next generation of photographers.

In essence, my journey is a testament to determination and a hunger for excellence. From capturing moments on set to creating timeless portraits, my work reflects a journey of self-discovery, learning, and the relentless pursuit of creative mastery.
