Life & Work with Joshua Angus

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Angus.

Joshua Angus

Hi Joshua, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
So I originally went to college to study pre-law. After a year, I realized that that route wasn’t for me so I dropped out. Took some time off from school and then randomly woke up one day wanting to give the film a shot. January of 2019, I started film school, which was how I met Aaron. A friend of a friend got word that I was trying to get into the industry and offered me a PA gig with the company that he was currently DP’ing for Consume Media. I began to PA for them and on some other sets. Leading into my senior year, I moved up from PA to AD. I parlayed that into an internship with them and moved into a full-time position with them as a Jr. Producer/Assistant Director. Most recently as of May this year, I received a promotion to the title of Producer/Director!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Early on in Film School, I had to spend some time in a rehabilitation facility due to battles with depression and anxiety.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
So as AD, I quarterback all of our full-scale productions. I’m the one that makes sure everyone knows where they need to be and when they need to be there (Production Schedule, Shot Order, Crew Sourcing, Locations, Casting, just about everything). Along with that, I help out with creative conception and direction in pre-pro and production. I’ve helped produce and AD several broadcast, streaming, and social ads for brands such as Georgia Farm Bureau, Newell Brands (Prismacolor, Dymo, Elmers, E-Xacto), Georgia Tech Athletics, Outreach Global Group, City of Lawrenceville, and KontrolFreak. I’ve worked with several high-level collegiate athletes, such as Stetson Bennett.

In terms of what I’m most proud of, I recently had the pleasure of interviewing a woman by the name of Teri Doke. She and her family had a lot to do with the beginning of the civil rights movement, as her father worked hand-in-hand with Martin Luther King Sr. It was just an honor sitting down, getting her perspective on things, hearing her story, and learning from her example. I like to think that what sets me apart from others is the respect that I give/treat everyone who’s on one of my sets with. The joy, passion, and energy that I bring to every single production, and the fact that I can be very hands-on in terms of my ability/willingness to do any job to make sure that the job gets done. At the end of the day, I want my crew and my company to win every time we step on set, and my willingness to lead while serving/championing others is the main thing that I want people to know me for!
