Life & Work with Joycelyn Fluker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joycelyn Fluker.

Hi Joycelyn, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Growing up in Chicago, IL. Split-parent household. Moved in with my dad by the age of 12 in a studio apartment in Hyde Park. Dad worked 2 jobs to support us. Going to school becoming a teen mom at the age of 17, two children by the age of 19. The odds were stacked high. Coming from very humble beginnings being uncomfortable was my normal. Pushing through defeat, poverty, being different, misunderstood was not a walk in the park. Getting to know who I was and what I carried at a very early age was surreal. To understand the value and exude that. Helping others with their needs and things was my thing… To have so many gifts and be extremely talented. What do I do? How do I know or begin to understand that these gifts and talents are to be nurtured and strengthened… All I ever knew was how to survive.

So I survived. I worked and took care of my children. Talk about adulting ,real adulthood. Not knowing every job, experience and setback was setting me up to be who I am today. Years of growing, maturing, getting an understanding of who I am and who’s I am. My steps have been ordered. By the age of 30 in 2008. God lead me to Atlanta with a promise. Genesis 12 1-3

If you leave the land of your fathers. I’ll make your name great. I’ll bless those that bless you. I’ll curse this that curse you… When God gives you a word, hold on to it as though you have nothing else. I promise you, God’s word never turns void. You just have to work the word. I went to Atlanta and went to work. The main thing was my faith. I had just recently graduated from Piviot Point beauty college I. I passed the boards and was a Licensed professional cosmologist. I started my career in Atlanta. I began building a clientele as well as new relationships. I’ve worked at a few salons before I created a personal salon space for myself. Your girl was booked and busy working for herself. One of my clients always said I was the best-kept secret in the A. I worked It’s Aziza Girl and Aziza Girl Hair Co. from 2008-2017 in Atlanta as a Hair Professional.

God called me to San Francisco, California in 2017 with an added promise. Eyes have not seen nor have ears heard the things I have in store for you. Listen! This was Faith on a whole other level. We go from faith to faith, glory to glory. 2017,  I loss my dad. I’ve never experienced a loss or pain like this before. After my dad’s death. I went to San Francisco California with a one-way plane ticket, $100 in cash a job interview that Monday and a promise. Just know this I didn’t get the job. I lived in California for almost four years shy of 1 month and became a whole new person. California changed me is so many ways. I stand corrected. God changed me. I’m currently working on my first book titled” The call to San Francisco “ This book has every experience, miracle untold stories and truths that I’ve encountered. I will share this,God sent the angel Gabriel to me. I didn’t realize I was entertaining an angel until they were gone. Just know, what Gabriel gave me that day, helped carry me through the call to San Francisco.

Four years later, I’m back in the A full circle.
Graduated from nursing school.
Purchased my first home.
Got married.
All things new.
Finishing my single “Walking in my Destiny” will be released July 10, 2023.

There is more…

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not a smooth road. It’s all about being comfortable and confident in who you are. What does that look like? Loving all of you. The good, the bad and the ugly. Adjust accordingly.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m doing it all. One thing at a time.

I’m mostly proud of getting myself out and showing up. Sharing with the world the gifts God have given me. What are they if I keep them all to myself. I believe what sets me apart is my authenticity and I do me well.
