Life & Work with Juliana Nelson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Juliana Nelson.

Juliana, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have always been a lover of fashion. I grew up with an aunt who was a seamstress and my mom who was an entrepreneur. The passion they both had made its way to me. Now here I am, an entrepreneur with a fashion business. I started in 2014 with my first store Eva Paul (a modern line), I then started doing fashion shows where I would sell rare vintage pieces. I was mostly known for my vintage looks and people would always ask me can they buy the look off of me. That’s when a light bulb came on!

Not only did I have modern looks and vintage pieces but I started making inspirational shirts. Shirts and sweaters with different sayings that would inspire you to be kind or to show love to others. This brought on the faith based in our store.

I merged all three lines and now I have VEV. When I merged the stores, I connected with Nevaeha Robinson 20yrs old at the time and she became the COO of VEV. Her talent and skills allowed our store to grow in ways that it needed to.

VEV was created to be an outlet for those who are looking for variety and there is something for all types of women.

We wanted to create a company that women would fall in love with, whether it was the online store or at one of our Selfcare fashion events.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been smooth, however we have had more great moments than bad ones. The struggles we faced only helped us along the way in becoming a stronger team and company. COVID was our biggest struggle it caused us to not be able to launch our Spring and Summer collection.

Due to COVID, it made it hard to book models to wear the looks even putting together an event/fashion show to promote our new looks.

Then we had to strategize and come up with ways to build our business back.

We realized if we are going through this, how many other people are as well.

We came up with the Selfcare edition pop up shop. While being safe, we were allowing other entrepreneurs to have a safe space to sell their goods and meet new customers.

As of March, we will have our 3rd event giving space not just to women but all those that has a business and will need a space to promote their business.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a fashion stylist that first started off working with local creatives that were growing in their community and creating a name for themselves. Styling is one of my favorite things to do other than being a buyer and Seller for my company.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
What most may not know about us is that this is not just a dream but also a calling that will be fulfilled. We take being an entrepreneur and doing what we love very seriously. This is not just fashion for us but it will also open doors for others through employment and life changing programs to help young women. That through fashion, we will use it at VEV for outreach and to help women and entrepreneurs in our community.
