Today we’d like to introduce you to Juliebeth Delgado.
Hi Juliebeth, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always been drawn to storytelling, imagination, and for me, art has been the place where those two things collide. Growing up, I was obsessed with cartoons, video games, and all things geeky pop culture, which shaped the artist I am today. I started out illustrating little stories and making fan art just for fun, and over time, I realized how much joy I get from creating characters and bringing worlds to life on the page.
Becoming an art teacher felt like a natural extension of that passion. I love being able to share creativity with my students and inspire them the same way artists inspired me when I was younger. Teaching keeps me learning, constantly curious, and surrounded by imagination every day, which also fuels my own personal art practice.
Today, I balance the best of both worlds: in the classroom, I help young artists discover their voice, and outside of school, I continue building mine through illustration and fan art that reflects the fandoms and stories I love. My journey is still evolving, but I’m grateful I can blend creativity, community, and a whole lot of geeky fun.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Balancing motherhood, teaching, and trying to pursue my own art has been a real challenge. There are days when I feel like I’m being pulled in every direction. Teaching demands a lot of energy, motherhood demands even more, and somewhere in the middle, I’m still trying to carve out time for my own creative work. There’s a constant struggle between wanting to grow as an artist and making sure I’m present for my family and students. I’ve had to learn to give myself grace. Progress might feel slow, but it’s still progress. Even when time is limited, those late-night drawing sessions or stolen moments of inspiration remind me why I keep going. Every challenge has made me more determined and more appreciative of the creative space I do have. My journey might be messy, but it’s also full of love, learning, and passion, and that’s what keeps me moving forward.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My work is rooted in storytelling. I love illustrating characters and fan art inspired by the cartoons, games, and pop culture that have shaped me. I specialize in creating expressive, whimsical artwork that captures a sense of playfulness and wonder. Whether it’s reimagining beloved characters or designing my own originals, I’m always trying to bring out personality, humor, and a little bit of nostalgia.
I’m proud of the way my art connects with people. When someone sees a piece and lights up because it reminds them of something they love, or they notice a small detail that sparks joy, that’s the best feeling. I also love that my students get to see me actively creating and pursuing my own goals; it shows them that art isn’t just something we learn about, it’s something we can live.
What sets me apart is the blend of my influences and my life experience. I’m a teacher, a mom, a geek at heart, and all of that finds its way into what I make. My work lives at the intersection of creativity, fandom, and everyday life, and I think that combination gives it a voice that’s both personal and relatable.
What makes you happy?
Honestly, what makes me happy is my creativity mixed with connection. When I get to draw something that I’m excited about, especially a character or story that I love, it brings me so much joy. Art has always been my escape, my means of expression, and my way of celebrating the things that make me who I am.
What also makes me happy is seeing that creative spark in others. Watching my students discover their artistic confidence or seeing my own kids sit beside me with crayons and imagination… those are the moments that remind me why I do what I do. And of course, spending time with family, diving into fandoms I love, laughing, playing games, geeking out together… all of that fills my cup.
Art, motherhood, teaching — they’re all different kinds of love in my life. When they come together, even in the smallest ways, that’s when I feel the happiest.
