Life & Work with Kalea Cauthen of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kalea Cauthen.

Hi Kalea, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a master cosmetologist with over 15 years of experience in the beauty industry. I received my cosmetology training at the Aveda Institutes of Atlanta and earned my professional makeup certification from Studio Crush School of Makeup.

I began my career working in full-service salons alongside top professional brands, including Aveda, Oribe, Kevin Murphy, Redken, and Wella. After building a strong technical foundation in the salon environment, I transitioned into freelance artistry, where I specialize in hair and makeup for weddings, fashion, editorial, commercial, and media projects.

With more than 10 years of experience in the wedding industry, I have been recognized for excellence with Best of Weddings awards from both The Knot and WeddingWire. My work includes hair and makeup for music videos featuring artists such as Big Boi, Mike Epps, Sleepy Brown, and Rico Nasty, as well as television projects for TLC and Family Feud, etc.

I have worked on commercial campaigns for major brands including Coca-Cola, Georgia Power, McDonald’s, Holiday Inn Express, America’s Best Eyewear, and Curl Rhythm, etc. My film experience includes hair and makeup for short films, most recently Bloom.

Highly experienced in photoshoots ranging from beauty to editorial, I have collaborated with both Atlanta-based and international agencies. My work has been published in Vogue and Moevir Paris, and I have contributed to the fashion industry by providing hair and makeup for runway shows and events such as Louis Vuitton, Aveda Walk for Water, and SCAD Fashion, etc.

I am known for my versatility, professionalism, and commitment to delivering high-quality, customized beauty services across every project I undertake.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been many valuable learning lessons along the way. For example you never know what someone’s going through so don’t take things personally. I’ve had to learn a balance in helping people the best I can while honoring my own boundaries and not abandoning myself.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a master cosmetologist with a passion for makeup and hairstyling. My versatility allows me to work across weddings, editorial and commercial projects, special effects makeup, male grooming, while providing customized services for all hair and skin types.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I believe in taking risks when the situation calls for it. I’ve walked away from comfortable salon positions to build my own path, giving myself the freedom to follow my passions through freelance work. I’ve also taken creative risks when it felt right—pushing myself to think outside the box and express myself more fully. For me, risk-taking is ultimately about trusting and believing in yourself.
