Today we’d like to introduce you to Karimah Williams.
Hi Karimah, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m originally from Oakland, CA and have lived in Atlanta for nine years. Like many of us, I went through a lot of ups and downs in my life due to a lack of knowledge of self. I felt a void spiritually and started really working on myself from the inside out to address why I was ending up in the same situations. I started to visit a metaphysical store and begin to meditate with crystals, smudge and kept a journal with my goals. My life changed within a few months, I no longer had a victim mentality and I wasn’t just working a job that I didn’t enjoy. I thought to myself I wanted to help other people reach this level of peace in their lives so I decided to start my own Metaphysical Supply Store called The NuMoon. The New Moon symbolizes new beginnings which exactly what I want to help others achieve. Your past or current circumstances do not have to define who you are.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. The business itself is easy flowing and very fulfilling but the actual “business” part is not so fun LoL. Starting with the paperwork and filing the LLC, the bookkeeping for the taxes, and the sales, Sometimes I get lots of orders one month I got one. There are a lot of things that I had to learn by trial and error and those lessons can be expensive. You definitely have to have tough skin in order to be a business owner it’s harder than I thought. The important thing is to learn and keep moving forward do not get discouraged.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Right now, Spirituality is trending so there are an abundance of people selling things such as sage, candles, magic oils, etc. However, I do have specialty items that might not be found in any metaphysical store such as crystal wine bottle stoppers and Amethyst reef diffusers. I also specialize in giving honest spiritual advice, it’s not as simple just to burn sage and say affirmations. There is a lot of self-work that has to happen in order to change your life for the better.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Risk is necessary to run a business there is no way around it. For example, I bought a product that I thought would sell really good and I got one sell from that item. You will pay for ads on social media and just because people viewed or even liked your post does not mean you will get a sale from it. Like I said before, it takes tough skin but you have to just keep moving forward.
