Today we’d like to introduce you to Kay Martin.
Hi Kay, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
So I started selling makeup for Estée Lauder. I never wanted to actually do it but I loved the thrill of selling it. One day my counter manager at the time Ms. Janice Watkins she told me makeup was my gift and I needed to feel comfortable doing faces. The ONLY reason I actually taught myself how to do makeup was because I knew it would increase my sales. I wanted to be #1 sales trainer in the Estée Lauder Company. I went to MAC cosmetics in Perimeter Mall the Pro Store as a manager and then one random day TLC for my 90-day fiancé called me and said hey we need a makeup artist tomorrow after that everything just went up. I have worked with MTV, TLC, I’m currently working with Bella Blaq for her new tv show. What actually motives me at first was I wanted to prove every hater, critic, anybody that had something to say about me wrong… Now that I have surpassed them, I look at my mom and dad and see they are getting gray hair. It bothers me because im running out of time. Before they leave this earth, I want them to experience wing rich and luxury. Me and God go back and forth all the time because I will never forgive myself if I don’t make it. I can’t even turn back and walk away if I wanted to…
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Whew NO! Nothing has been smooth. Imagine seeing your success every single of the day but nobody else can. That’s been my biggest struggle. I try to tell my family like mom, dad I’m going to have a multimillion-dollar company. They hear me but because God didn’t show them, they can’t see it. So I’m like dang who can I express this gut-wrenching feeling to. I been so focused on my goal that I’ve isolated myself from so many people. It’s not personal I just can’t lose. Even when something in my business doesn’t go my way I don’t carry that baggage for long because I have no choice or any other option but to keep moving.

I am a celebrity makeup artist and owner of luxury cosmetics line Kay Martin Cosmetics And Makeup Services INC. I’ve only been doing this for about three years now. My goal is to have my makeup line merge with Estée Lauder Companies a billion-dollar business. M not like anybody in the game. When I tell you my plan is so big you will think I’m crazy. I just want everyone to know if you are already at the top I hope you are working every single day because I’m coming.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I’m from Albany GA. And I did not care about makeup in the beginning. In the beginning, the only motivation I had was to be better than everybody I didn’t like or didn’t like me. Which wasn’t a hard job by the way. Hahaha but this journey has got me closer to god than I’ve ever been. Like god is 100% responsible for every move and every success story.
