Life & Work with Kevin Shen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Shen.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My wife, Elaine, and I started the business with a big plan and a big goal, but all behind one theory, a simple one. We simply want to capture the best moment and memories for our clients while being part of their journey in their lives. From newborn to first birthday, graduation to wedding, and maternity to family portraits; It all started with a passion and some motivation, and the rest is history.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I have not known any business that got where they are today without getting through some struggles, and The Simple Theory certainly isn’t an exception. Elaine and I both have a full-time job, so working on weekends while powering through the 9-5 isn’t an easy task for sure. I’m truly thankful that she is a business mastermind. Because of that, we are able to keep our business organized and maintain 100% satisfaction from our clients.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The Simple Theory is a professional-owned business that provides photography and cinematography services. The packages we offer cover model portraits, family portraits, senior (graduation) portraits, elopements, and of course the weddings. I would say that the customer relationship is one of our specialties that we’re proud of the most. We’ve become friends with many of our clients after their sessions, and most of them would return for additional services. Some of them booked us for their weddings and returned for maternity or family portraits, while others booked us for engagement portraits and returned to book us for their wedding films!

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Elaine and I are both certified pastry chefs! We went to Le Cordon Bleu culinary school and graduated from their Patisserie program. Back at when we started the business, we thought about offering cake and photography/cinematography services for the same wedding, which we did for once, but it was too much to handle by just two of us. So we decided to keep it simple, backing up with our business ethics and its name.
