Today we’d like to introduce you to Khila Khi.
Hi Khila, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started rapping at age nine in Lexington KY. I was born in Lexington, KY but I grew up in Kansas City Missouri with my dad after experiencing foster care in KY. I spent a few years there and moved back to Lexington, KY around nine years old and that’s when I started to do music. I would go to the studio with my brother and make music. I was always a poet and very funny outgoing but I turned to music because it was always something I wanted to do. My father was the greatest battle rapper in my city when I was a child so it was always a part of me. I started taking music serious when I had my second child Zyan back in 2018. I did it as a way to cope with domestic violence and escape it. I have since then went blind in one eye from trauma/ glaucoma so I do music to help anyone experiencing that same trauma escape it. I do music to make women feel good & for people with glaucoma who don’t have a voice. I’m also an aspiring actress (comedian), I sew clothes, I make custom shoes hoping to be a fashion designer someday also. & I now have my own LLC business and I moved to Atlanta with my fiance and three children to take my Entropanuer / music career to the next level and provide a better life for my children!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a smooth road at all. It’s been hustle after hurtle. You have your home town who tries to bring you down. I was the first female artist to do it coming out of the small town that I am from. And they all hate on each other instead of working together. I have friends and family I had to cut off along with way. I’ve been homeless on my journey, I’ve lost it all and gained it right back. But most importantly, I never gave up. Anyone who’s made it before me had to walk in the same shoes so I know I’m built for this life and I won’t complain! I just follow god’s lead at god’s speed.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am most proud of my artistry. My stage name is Khila Khi. Pronounced (keela-kee), I started out as a hip hop dancer / poet. I’ve been on tv, I’ve been on the news. I made the cover of a newspaper article at just five years old. Twice. One in KY, & once in Kansas City, Missouri. But it’s nothing compared to getting in the booth and feeling those butterflies and heating my truth on the mic. I also do hair on the side, I sell bundles & make custom wigs. I am an artist turned Entropanuer & I will be somebody big someday. And I plan on doing it all in god’s timing.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
