Today we’d like to introduce you to Kody Miller.
Kody, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have seen addiction firsthand from a young age and the damage it causes on everyone it touches. As a barber in Atlanta, I was led to give the gift I was given and reach out directly to the addicts themselves to do my part. Fades For Faith is aimed for men in recovery. We visit drug and alcohol rehab centers to give free haircuts, free products and also have a scholarship program that pays for barber school and completely outfits them with what they need to become successful in graduating. I am passionate about my craft and helping in the Atlanta recovery community.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I feel like when you are on the right path and doing what fulfills your purpose things come naturally and at the right time. Not saying that it’s been an easy ride but as obstacles have surfaced, I saw it as a challenge and maneuvered to get through them. Covid definitely slowed things down but I used that time to build areas of the nonprofit that prepared us for when it was time to get back out with our clients.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a licensed master barber. I specialize in men’s grooming. Haircuts, straight razor shaves, beard sculpting, facials, scalp treatments, and teaching to style their hair. I take pride in my work and show through in my attention to detail. I am most proud of my son, Aiden who has chosen to follow in my footsteps and has become a licensed master barber himself. He has chosen to be actively involved in Fades For Faith. There aren’t very many trades that a mother can pass down to her son. Seeing his passion for this industry and the service work we do at Fades For Faith gives me a heart full of gratitude.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
One of my favorite childhood memories is picking blackberries with my dad on the old gravel road we lived on. We would take them back and my mom would make cobblers with them.
