Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristopher Williams.
Kristopher, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am originally from Louisville, Kentucky and went to college at Western Kentucky University where I majored in Business Management with a concentration in Human Resource Management. I got into this field because I took an interest in the work my mom did in HR. After graduating I landed my first Human Resources job in Atlanta. I was excited about relocating to Atlanta because I felt that it was a land of opportunity for a young adult. Which in my case it has been! I have been working in the HR field for ten years now. I have gained so much knowledge while working in this field I feel like I have an obligation to share my knowledge with those who are younger than me. For that reason, I decided to get involved in mentoring young people. In particular, I work with boys through my fraternity’s Kappa League program with the local chapter I am a member of (Alpharetta Smyrna Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi, Fraternity, Inc. I was blessed to have mentors in my life that helped to guide me on the path that I am on today, so I feel the need to pass on that knowledge to the next generation.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I wish I could say that it has been a smooth road! However, it has not always been smooth sailing in my life, I have lost several loved ones who I was really close to. One of the biggest losses was the unexpected passing of my father right before my senior year of high school. He was so excited for my senior year of high school and the fact that I had decided the college (WKU) which was he and mother’s alma mater. In addition, I have lost both grandmothers who played a big part of my upbringing. However, I know they all would want me to continue to press on in life.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I currently am a Senior Human Resources Business Partner for WarnerBros. Discovery. I support a portion of our Finance organization. In my role, I work closely with the business leaders on all things people strategy. This includes talent acquisition, compensation, learning and development and so much more! I feel like my specialization is really building partnerships with the business units. Yes, I enjoy bringing my HR expertise to the table, but I also enjoy learning about their aspects of the business and also establishing relationships with people. I really believe that I am able to relate and build relationships with all people and that’s exactly what I do in my day to day.
What I am most proud of is that people can honestly say that I am a personable person. Whether it is a hard conversation that I have to have with an employee they also say that I handle it with dignity and respect which is unfortunately not common in today’s world.
What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is leaving a positive impact on everyone who I encounter. Whether this is someone who I encounter while walking downtown, the employees that I interact act with at work or my friends/family. I feel like this world is such a tough place to live in and I want to be the reason that people know there are still good people in the world. I always have the mindset of how can I bless someone today.
