Life & Work with Lacey Summers of Monroe, ga

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lacey Summers

Hi Lacey, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been in the photography field since I was in high school. I started working as an assistant wedding photographer in 9th grade, back when it was all film, which is wild to think of now. I worked for a very well known photographer who taught me much of what I know today. When digital cameras hit the market, my mom purchased one, and together we learned and shot a great amount during that time. Eventually, people were asking me to capture all of their milestones. I was shooting so much I decided to make it a full time career. In 2009 I made it offical, fifteen years this month. All together, I’ve been in the industry for twenty-eight years. I am truly blessed!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As in every dream and goal, there will always be challenging moments. If I had to pick one, it would be finding balance between running a successful business on my own and being a stay at home mom to three amazing kids. In addition, being alongside my husband who is gone often for work. Though, over the years I have learned certain weeks will be more difficult than others and to I try my best to go with the flow. The process and my diligence always pays off in the end.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I seem to do a little bit of everything in the field. I think that’s what sets me apart. I photograph seniors, weddings, Nascar, road and bridge companies, headshots, boudoir, newborns, events, sports, dance, equestrian… and more. I love a challenge! Though, I would say I capture family and lifestyle the most. Engagements, birthdays, anniversaries and all the special moments in my clients life. I can’t say it enough, I so much appreciate my clients and how they trust me with their memories. I’ve been photographing many of my clients for 13+ years. It is such an honor. I also own a farm where I do most all my work. It’s 20 acres of beautiful creeks, lake, dock, antique vehicles, fields and so much more. It makes for the perfect back drop. Recently I decided to share the beauty and rent the farm to other photographers. Our farm is called Summers Creek farm, and you can find it on Facebook.

Lastly, one of the most fulfilling things I do is teach photography! I offer photography classes to the community. One of my favorite parts of this job is sharing my passion. I meet with inspiring photographers of all ages and levels to answer any questions they may have and further their knowledge about cameras and photography. I also offer mentoring and internships for those who want to learn more about becoming a photographer.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Learning to grow and educate myself on a daily basis, and not to compare myself or my art to others. We all have our own view and perspective, thats what makes each photographer so beautiful and unique!
