Today we’d like to introduce you to Leticia Williams.
Leticia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My business started when a friend believed in me to do something I had never done before. She was planning an important event and needed assistance decorating. She handed me a pack of balloons she had purchased online that needed to be put together. Having no experience ever putting together a balloon garland, I was nervous but excited and eager to help. It was, indeed, incredibly difficult but I managed to put together something decent. To my complete surprise, it garnered admiration and some of her guests then started to book me for their events. Over time, I learned how to work smarter, faster and fell in love with working with balloons.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road, but it has definitely been a joyous one. I’ve been a business owner for almost 1.5 years and I’ve learned so many lessons along the way. Most of those lessons were learned from making mistakes, so I’m grateful for all of the lows just as much as the highs. In addition to being a business owner, I’m also a full-time mom and last year, I was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder which made it difficult to fully put myself out there. However, just because it was difficult, doesn’t mean it was successful in stopping me. Being a mom and a business owner has taught me to push through my fears. Through that perseverance, I’ve also been able to overcome the anxiety disorder.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a balloon artist who specializes in organic-style balloon designs. Organic balloon design is when an artist uses balloons in varying sizes and structures the balloons in a way that flows naturally. I love this kind of design because it creates a unique look and every install is different from the last. I am most proud of how people react to my installations when they are complete. I love seeing the smile on their faces and sharing in their joy. It truly makes it all worth it. I believe what sets me apart from some other balloon artists is my heart for the client first and how I take every job personal.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I’ve always loved celebrations! I also have loved bringing people together. Personality-wise – my mom would say that I was too sweet and her desire was for me to be stronger. As I got older, I learned that there is strength in meekness and that meekness doesn’t equal weakness. I didn’t have the easiest childhood but I do recall often trying to find the positive in every situation. I also have a lot of faith which, through the years, has helped me overcome many trials and tribulations because I’ve seen the goodness of God even in the most difficult of circumstances.
