Life & Work with Lindsay Ewing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsay Ewing.

Hi Lindsay, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was raised by a single mom and am the youngest of four strong women. My mom worked as a loan officer and was an avid equestrian.  She gave me my love for horses and taught me how to have a strong work ethic.  My father lived in California and worked as a real estate broker. I spent summers with Dad and had the opportunity to experience the other side of life. It was here I was able to experience beautiful South California estates. My passion for design and architecture was inspired during these visits . From a young age, I knew that I wanted to pursue a career in design and real estate. However, it wasn’t until my mid-20s that the pieces finally fell into place when I founded Ecraft Custom Homes.  I later talked my husband into joining me in the business.

Ecraft Design and building company was created in 2012. With creating a small business, I have worn all the hats. Each milestone I was able to hire someone as good or better than I was at wearing that hat. We have grown to11 employees. I still carry many roles at ECraft but am fortunate to pursue many other entrepreneurial ideas with this crazy creative mind of mine.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
More like the log ride at a carnival! With so many challenges, some are just experiences that make us better. When anyone asks my opinion, I usually tell them I am not sure I do it just right. More than right, I know I have done it many wrong ways and I learned quickly from that! I do enjoy the business side of creating. I like people and  enjoy teaching many of them how to curate their talents. Just like a piece of raw land and business has so much potential but the vision has to be there, then you can get the plans drawn so people can execute.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
It was hard to choose one for this.

I think at heart, my love is for artistry and creative needs in the market of construction. I would hate to build a bunch of white boxes; instead, I get to run a company that creates 14+ one of a kind forever homes for our clients. That is the cool part.

Another awesome part of my job is finding land and developing this land for a community. I think land planning is often overlooked with city and county governments.  It is up to the developers to really care about the impact to the community and have long-term goals of improving the area, not just being profitable.

In my spare time, I love training young horses to reach their potential. I barrel race when I can. I have two young kids and my daughter also loves horses.  I guess you could say horses mirror my professional life by inspiring me in creativity, being challenged and developing others.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I listen to many podcasts. I love there is so much content available to those who are searching.

“A well-designed business” was a first for design business help.

“Bigger pockets” is a good one for investment.
