Today we’d like to introduce you to Lulu Pearl Kwakye.
Hi Lulu Pearl, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
The idea for Divine Gateway Foundation began in 2005 when I was adopting my niece and nephew from Ghana and felt a strong calling to one day build an orphanage. I didn’t have the resources then, but during COVID I started sewing masks and bonnets with the help of my husband and colleagues to raise the first funds. My parents purchased land in my hometown, Osino, and with the support of my family and Glassco Building Construction, we were able to break ground on our first building. That’s how the dream finally became reality.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road. I had to travel to California and other states as a travel nurse to raise the funds. Glasel Construction built our first building while I paid in installments. For years, we received donated items but almost no financial support. Aside from two friends who helped monthly, I carried the full financial burden. Divine Gateway Foundation has existed since 2020, but our first major financial donations didn’t come until October 2025 from Iglesia Ni Cristo and Keller Williams Kares4Kids.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a registered nurse of 23 years, specializing in the ICU. I started as a CNA and worked my way up to interim nursing unit director at Grady Hospital. I’ve worked across major systems, including Emory, Grady, Northeast Georgia, Piedmont, Essentia, Sutter, Kaiser, Santa Clara VMC and O’Connor, and Stanford. I’m most proud of rising through every level of nursing and being known for my adaptability, leadership, and commitment to excellent patient care.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
work with a dedicated team of leaders and communities that serve our underprivileged children and socio‑economically disadvantaged families. People can support us through volunteering, community service, or helping sort and pack donated items for shipment to Ghana. Every extra set of hands truly makes a difference.
