Today we’d like to introduce you to Marc Soper.
Hi Marc, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was a child actor that was not supported by my parents. So while in the military and continued to act at local theaters and for the military. When I retired from the military my son age 13 had signed with Carolina Talent so I went and auditioned and was accepted. After signing with them I realized that I did not like the way they did things as an agency. 4 years later I started working for them with the hopes of changing things.
After turning around the TV/Film division as an agent I took over the position on Agency Director. Once I became the agency director I was able to start changing the way the agency did business. In 2016 I took over the ownership of Carolina Talent and since have taken the agency to being in the top 500 agencies agency in the world.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was not. Taking a company that had at one time had a GREAT name from the 60’s to the late 90’s but in the 2000’s had become very poorly run and was taking advantage of talent, by overcharging for photoshoots and other things that was not in the talent best interest. The company also had lost the respect of most of the local casting director because of it practices. It took me from 2010 to 2015 to rebuild the confidence and trust of the industry and industry professionals.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I spent 21 years in the military. During that time I did many things for local theater where ever I was stationed. During this time I also did a lot of things for the military. I was NCO of the year as well as being on the cover of magazines representing the military and certain military equipment the was being tested and used in the military. I was also a spokesperson for the BRADLEY FIGHTING VEHICLE for 2 years.
When I retired from the military, I entered back into the entertainment industry which is where I have been since 2009.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was the kid that got along with everybody. I hung with all the groups and just got along with everybody.
I was the class clown but not the best student. I did what I needed to get by.
I played football my freshman year as well as gymnastics. The rest of my HS years, I was mostly involved in Speech and Theater programs.
