Today we’d like to introduce you to Master Sergeant Baisden.
Hi Master Sergeant, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Southern Crescent Veteran Services Inc is a 501c3 Veteran & Youth Non-Profit Service Organization formed in 2018 to answer the many cries of thousands of underserved Veterans at that time in Clayton County.
I joined the organization in 2019 as the Vice President of Operations and quickly realized not only Clayton County was underserved but also Henry County.
Most Veterans reached out to us for VA Claims frustrations, but it quickly turned to Homeless Veteran needing help and many others at risk of becoming Homeless, so our mission shifted to STOPPING evictions and foreclosures on the homes of Veterans.
Because I am a single mother we added Youths to our platform because I learned that here in Henry County that thousands of youths are homeless too and growing rapidly.
We proud ourselves in being true champions of both Veterans and Youths, our board is an all volunteers comprised of 99% Veterans whom have served our who are currently serving in US Armed Forces.
Our organization is the ONLY Veteran Non-Profit Services Organization that has no borders, no limitations, and no restrictions on how we serve Veterans & Youths.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
In the beginning we had steady cash flow to operate and take care of the demands of those that needed a hand up during financial hardships, but not enough supporters nor volunteers.
Today the burdens are hard because after the Coronavirus Pandemic we no longer have steady cash flow, thus making it extremely hard to STOP evictions and foreclosures on homes of Veterans.
If I could make just one (1) wish it would be to receive $225 Million dollars donation to build five (5) state of the arts Homeless Veterans communities in the states of Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, Texas, & Virginia with the help of 100+ dedicated loyal volunteers in each state to help us with our daily operations.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We are similar to other Veterans Non-Profit Service Organization but different because we focus on meeting the real needs of the Veteran and the crisis that they need help with at time of contact.
We specialize in helping Homeless Veterans & Youths through Random Acts of Kindness with a focus of eradicating the homeless population among Veterans by stopping evictions and foreclosures.
Our proudest moments in time is seeing the smiles on the faces of homeless Veterans families when you remove them from hot none working cars place them temporarily into hotel or motel with running water and at least one meal provide at breakfast from hotel or motel. But going from hotel or motel to your own apartment or home brings smiles to our faces here at Southern Crescent Veteran Services Inc.
Or providing a Debt FREE Cars to Veterans needing reliable transportation to look for a better job, go to and from various doctors appointments, to and from work or visit family members and friends they haven’t seen in years when you give them the car keys in their hands the tears of joy warms our hearts.
What sets us apart from others we have no borders, no limitations, no restrictions which means that whatever the financial hardship is we do our best to help, many years ago we had a single disabled female Veteran who was a young mother of three (3) minor children and her son needed emergency dental surgery that required her to put down thousands of dollars before the dentists would operate. Our organization was the only organization they raised those thousands of dollars. When she came to us she was frustrated, overwhelmed, and in desperation because she had reached out to dozens of agencies, groups, and organization all saying NO she was happy to hear a YES we will help.
Thus, paying it forward through Random Acts of Kindness is what we live by here at Southern Crescent Veteran Services Inc by providing a hand up approach because they are human beings, our nations HEROES and because they deserve BETTER.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
It is our vision to STOP the vicious cycle of Veterans and their families members going through financal crisis by showing them and teaching them while they are serving in the US Armed Forces how to save money, invest money, manage money, and pay off all debt prior to them transitioning into the civilian sector.
Thus an opportunity to strive and enjoy retirement or just live a comfortable lifestyle.
Our organization would like the opportunity to seat down one day face to face with the leaders of the Department of Defense so that we can share and implement our plan this year if at all possible.
