Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew Campbell.
Hi Matthew, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started my journey as an actor doing theatre and musicals which paved the way to breaking into film and television. On the writing side I always loved creating characters and short stories as a kid but it wasn’t until I started doing stand up comedy as an adult did I learn I had a gift for writing comedy which then led to writing in other genres.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I think anyone who says a career as an actor and or an author and screenwriter is an easy one is lying to you. It’s a tough field to navigate and there is no clear- cut path to success. You need an extreme mental toughness and a resilience to you. The key is to never give up on yourself or your talent and keep pressing on.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in both acting and writing. I think what separates me from a lot of others in the business is that I can act and write equally well. This is allowing me to create starring vehicles for myself and bring original stories to the world. Original content has been widely publicized as lacking in Hollywood right now. I feel It’s time for the next generation of storytellers to come forth and bring completely new ideas and content to the masses. I think I am ,most proud of my book ‘Sinister City’. It is extremely difficult to get a book published and to get people to read an original screenplay as a new author. I am extremely proud of how well the book has done and how well things have been going on the book tour. I think It’s going to a pretty amazing comedy when it all comes to fruition.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I think the big shift in the entertainment world is going to be independent films in the next 5-10 years. I think once Hollywood begins to embrace the young independent filmmakers, they will see that the public actually wants fresh ideas. The world is growing tired of seeing remake after remake. We need to give them a reason to flood back to the theatres to see our ideas fleshed out on screen. We need to make the most of our opportunities and to create amazing films and television shows that the world can’t wait to binge. These shows might be out of the box but are incredibly well thought out and will keep the audience on their toes wanting more.
