Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle London.
Hi Michelle, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’m from NYC, I moved to Atlanta for coparenting. I had owned a natural Salon in NYC and didn’t want to own again. I wanted to be a part of a team salon. There are limited team salons in Atlanta. I found one and worked there for about ten months. It was not ideal. So I rented a suite at my Aunt’s Salon with two other women. They left after three months and I was alone. I started to get serious about social media and posted every day. I worked every day until I got a good following. Now I have 2 Salons in Decatur, GA and Philadelphia, PA.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As previously said, it has not been smooth. It’s been a lot of hard work, mostly alone. The last few years, I have had a great team.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Locmamas specializes in excellence of natural hair. I am a hair artist I love creating locs and cultivating them to magic. We start and maintain locs. Most of our clientele has been with us for years!
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I have met my financial advisor and PR person from networking events. Any event that prioritized Black women and business, I was there. Of course, because of the pandemic, there hasn’t been events. Once it gets started again, I will be in attendance.
