Life & Work with Miracle Alston of East Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Miracle Alston.

Hi Miracle , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up, I struggled with depression, anxiety, paranoia, and suicidal ideation from the early ages of 9 years old. My households and the family dynamics were not the best situation and a lot of that trauma and chaos, I internalized very young and started to hate myself. I began to self harm around the age of 9 as well, and didn’t stop until I was 15 years old. It wasn’t until I left to go to college that I started to realize my trauma’s and started doing the work to break those things down. As an adult, I felt myself struggling even more with depression, anxiety, paranoia, suicidal ideation and pressure to have my whole life and things all figured out. That is when I came across the Unalome symbol, This changed my whole perspective and made me be able to give myself some grace in this journey of life. I started working at a Candle shop when I was in my twenties which is where my love for candle making was born. It was one of the only times that the world would slow down and I could breathe and fully take in the moment. This is what inspired Unalome Candle Company.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No Road is really smooth, there are always obstacles and challenges on every new level that you reach. I dealt with a lot of struggles relating to not being a hundred percent knowledgable about certain things business wise so I made a few mistakes along the way. Also, Sometimes you can’t just take everyone’s word that they know what they are doing because some people don’t or they want to take advantage of the fact that you don’t know something.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My main passion and career goal is Film. I’m currently pursuing my bachelors degree in Film and Media with a minor in English. Growing Up, I’ve always dreamt of being an entrepreneur with multiple businesses, the candle business was one the businesses I wanted to have so I’ve accomplished that goal as well. One thing that I am most known for is my work ethic and my constant focus on the future and what the next goal is to accomplish. I am most proud of myself for being determined and diligent as it relates to my goals and my dreams. As long as I breathing, I can keep working towards what I want out of life.

How do you think about happiness?
Accomplishing things makes me very happy. I like the feeling of gratification that comes once you’ve completed something and seeing something through from it’s inception to the completion
