Life & Work with Monique Pitts-Taylor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Monique Pitts-Taylor.

Hi Monique, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Macon, GA, upon high school graduation I moved to Atlanta to attend Clark Atlanta University. During my matriculation, I study fashion abroad in London and ultimately graduated from Clark Atlanta University in December 2005. I decided to move back home in 2007 and I started my company, Monique Nicole.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My journey to success has not been a smooth and linear road. It has been filled with many challenges and major losses. My greatest challenge has been the loss of my older and only sister, Arnitra, she was the head makeup artist for Monique Nicole Inc and my best friend. Taking progressive steps without her cheering me on has been very difficult. I am determined to achieve greatness no matter what and I hope to inspire others along the way.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a design enthusiast that specializes in custom apparel, graphics, and event design. For over 20 years, I have worked with a variety of clients across a wide range of industries. The sole inspiration for all of my designs is to provide our valued clientele with products that compliments their Signature Style. I find great joy in working with clients who are struggling to locate great-fitting garments that are flattering to their body types, it’s a great feeling to help someone feel confident and beautiful. I am currently working on a ready-to-wear line of classic pieces in bold and fun prints for women. I am excited about this new project and I can’t wait to see the beautiful women wearing my pieces.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
1. My husband, Arnez Taylor, is my greatest supporter, on good or bad days he always reminds me who I am and helps me stay focused on the goal.

2. My sister, Arnitra Salter, will always be my motivation and my standard of greatness. She was a woman of grace and beauty whose talent is unmatched.

3. My Girls (my daughter, Braelynn, and my 2 nieces, Amira & Kelsey) are the needed motivation to never quit. When I look at them I remember that there are a lot of little black girls in the world that need to see black women doing phenomenal things and I want to make them proud.
