Hi Nakeidra, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi, I’m Keidralee, a local makeup artist. I’ve loved makeup and beauty for 10 years, starting when I watched YouTube while my husband was deployed and taught myself how to do my own makeup. After mastering my own face, I decided to try doing makeup for others. I sought advice from my cousin Tasia, a talented makeup artist, and started looking for models on Facebook to practice. Once I felt skilled enough, I began charging for full faces. A few years later, I did my first wedding, which didn’t go well, and I swore I’d never do another one. But when my best friend, also a skilled makeup artist, asked me to do her bridal makeup, I was honored. After her wedding, I fell in love with bridal makeup. While I offer all makeup services, bridal makeup is especially meaningful to me. As a mom of six girls, it’s comforting to know that’s one less thing I’ll have to worry about when they get married lol.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The journey hasn’t been easy, but I take responsibility for that. I’ve struggled with self-doubt, wondering if I’m good enough and feeling like quitting. I’ve laid awake, questioning God and asking if this is my true path. Yet, every time, the next day would bring new opportunities. I’ve learned that my focus on others and their success blinded me to my own progress and that what I’ve wanted years earlier is what I have right now .
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a luxury makeup artist offering a range of services, from maternity and special events to family and more. My true specialty, though, is bridal makeup – it’s what I’m most confident in. I’ve built a reputation for my bridal makeup expertise, and that’s often why clients are referred to me. I believe my clients appreciate my relatable and down-to-earth personality, as well as my ability to make them feel comfortable.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Don’t give up , find a makeup artist in the community and learn from them , but whatever you do don’t give up
