Today we’d like to introduce you to Nia Bell.
Hi Nia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’d like to take you on a journey of how I became Get Fit With Nia. It all started when I was a little girl in Elementary School. My parents taught me at just a little girl the basics of cooking. I grew so hungry from the cooking sessions at home that when I had an opportunity, I took the first class which had a little cooking in it and at the time for me that was in Middle School taking on Home Economics. That was a great time for me as my passion grew bigger and transitioned to taking on FCCLA and Culinary Arts in High School. I did Culinary throughout my entire schooling and even after graduating, I applied to go to Le Cordon Bleu College Of Culinary Arts in Atlanta. By far the best schooling I’ve had. We’ve made and ate everything you could think of. They drastically expanded my horizon within my flavor profile and it couldn’t just stop there. While in school, I worked in a restaurant, sometimes even two at a time… After graduating with my associate’s, I then applied to Johnson & Wales University in Charlotte NC and it wasn’t until I went to Johnson & Wales where I’ve learned more of the technical side around cooking. Since graduating, I’ve been addicted to cooking and watching the thrill of others enjoying my food.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some of the struggles I came along helped me grow. I do not look at them as struggles however growing pains in which they helped me and molded me into the person I am today. Sometimes being a woman in the culinary world can come with a tremendous amount of proving your worth, however, I do not look at them as struggles. They helped me grow more and polish my technique. Being the only woman in the kitchen gives you empowerment, at many times it makes you wonder how did I or she in other’s eyes even get there.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Currently, I specialize in being a personal Chef in the Atlanta area. I get booked for either going to a client’s home and preparing 2 or 3 course meals for my clients and their family or either by preparing togo orders to my loyal clients. I am most proud of how I work in my purpose. Not one day goes by where I’m not cooking for others and enjoying how they clean their plate or go back for seconds and even thirds. What sets me aside from others is not allowing others to negatively influence me however take it and make the best of the outcome.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love my city, there’s a lot to do. Many restaurants, new experiences and awesome people to meet. A lot of people in my city are very friendly and have great southern hospitality. There isn’t anything at the moment I can however dislike about my city.
