Today we’d like to introduce you to Nia Lawson.
Hi Nia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I went to a tufting class here in Atlanta around June 2022 and started taking tufting seriously a few months later in November. I’ve always been extremely artistic since I was a child. Previously I’ve done ceramics, sewing, photography, and graphic design. However, when I started making rugs, that is when I found a consistent love for this craft.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’ve done extremely well since starting my business in November so far. The persistent clientele is attributing to marketing, networking, and God. One of my biggest struggles has been managing my time while having a full-time job. Many entrepreneurs don’t talk about how to manage when you are successful in the corporate and entrepreneurial space. Originally tufting was supposed to be just a hobby/ side hustle.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m an artist that constructs custom rugs, outdoor mats, and wall decor from design to the actual rug of various sizes. I am known for the quality of my products and my creativity. I am most proud of the achievements I’ve made in just the beginning of a new journey, from my first sale to working events with a clientele that is continuously growing. From customer reviews, my outstanding customer service and business charm sets me apart from most.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was extremely introverted and stayed to myself. I always wanted alone time because I was the oldest child. In my solitude, that’s when I learned how creative I could be. From then, I started teaching myself how to sew, draw, play piano, and build inventions.
