Today we’d like to introduce you to Nisha Glenn
Hi Nisha, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Educated Girls Rock (EGR) was born from a deep-seated belief that every girl deserves to wear a cap and gown, symbolizing not just academic achievement but the triumph over personal and societal hurdles. The inception of EGR stemmed from my own life’s challenges—navigating pressures and overcoming barriers to achieve personal success. This understanding fueled my commitment to empower other girls through education, ensuring they never place limits on their dreams.
The iconic graduation cap logo of EGR epitomizes this commitment. It represents the pinnacle of educational accomplishment, a moment of unbridled pride every girl should experience as she walks across the graduation stage. This symbolism wasn’t merely aesthetic; it was a declaration of our ethos.
The journey didn’t stop there. Recognizing the growing impact of our mission, I saw “Educated Girl” rapidly transforming into a movement. As girls and women wore the Educated Girls Rock apparel, their demeanor changed—they felt unstoppable. This inspired further evolution. Thus, I expanded into creating an apparel company and consulting firm, aiming to not only inspire but also practically equip girls and women to pursue their dream careers.
In founding Educated Girls Rock and The Educated Girl brand, I’ve been driven by a core belief: every girl and woman should have the right and the means to achieve anything she sets her mind to. More than that, she should have the confidence to know she can.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, the road has not been smooth. Throughout this journey with Educated Girls Rock and the Educated Girl brand, I’ve encountered many highs and quite a few lows. There have been enthusiastic yeses mixed with plenty of nos. Despite the hurdles, my resolve to make a meaningful impact on girls’ education has kept me pushing forward by any means necessary.
Financial challenges are a constant companion in this journey. Yet, each obstacle reinforces my commitment to our goals and spurs creativity to sustain and expand our efforts. These struggles are not just obstacles; they underscore the strength and determination that define me, not only as the founder but as a woman determined to leave a positive mark on the world.
The support I’ve received has been phenomenal. It’s these supporters who make it easier to thrive and continue sowing seeds of empowerment in society. Their belief in our mission fuels my determination to create more and make even bigger impacts on girls’ and women’s education.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’ve dedicated the last 20 years to a career in IT, specializing recently in cybersecurity. My passion, however, extends beyond the technical aspects of my job. I am deeply committed to integrating education and technology, which allows me to thrive both personally and professionally.
In my work, I am known for seamlessly blending these two worlds—education and technology. This unique approach not only defines my career but also enhances the impact I have on the lives of young women and girls, guiding them through their educational journeys.
What I’m most proud of isn’t just my professional achievements but also the personal milestones along the way. Being able to pursue the things I love at this stage in my life is incredibly fulfilling. Additionally, witnessing the graduation of both my children has been a highlight, reaffirming the values of education and perseverance I hold dear.
What sets me apart is my foundation in education coupled with my ambition. I define success on my own terms and strive to be a leader, not a follower. My approach is to lead by example, forging paths that not only further my objectives but also inspire and enable others to achieve their dreams.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Education and Cybersecurity Industry changes.
Within the next 5 to 10 years, there is going to be a Digital and Blended Learning and more personalized learning with advances in technology which will enable more personalized education. I also think that there will be an increase Focus on Mental Health: Schools and educational programs are becoming more aware of the importance of students’ mental health. When it comes to cybersecurity there is going to be a growing Demand for Security Professionals: As cyber threats continue to evolve and increase, there will be a significant demand for skilled cybersecurity professionals. Additionally, as more devices connect to the internet (IoT), cybersecurity will become a critical aspect of everyday life. Securing these devices and the data they transmit will be a priority, especially as smart home devices and wearables become more prevalent.
