Today we’d like to introduce you to Phillip Cooper.
Hi phillip , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Growing up in Columbia South Carolina in a single-family home where my mother raised 5 kids some may call it the spot, the concrete playground, The brick city The Hood but we called it home, life was good mom dukes did her best with the help of her mother my grandmother they tried their best not to let the street life swallow me and my brother up but our environment attracted us boredom came like a thief in the night and as time progress we begin to become products of our own environment.
time shot by as if I was in a time machine before i knew it i went from stealing bikes then cars then on Drugs wrong choices landed me in jails and institutions with my fourth time in the joint on my 5th year with 5 more years to go my cellmate ask me what was i going to do when i get out i said open up a program called Teenz on Point to teach the youth trades and skills to give them more opportunities for they want end up in the grave yard or jail.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Everything became a struggle especially when you’re doing something to better the society and the people, My struggles was funding i continue to push forward and know that this is GODS plan and If there’s no struggle threes no progress
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I love to see the smiles on these young girls and boys after their confidence has gone up 7 levels .
I train the youth by putting tools like Drills, hammers, Screwdrivers instead of guns and guns.
I expose them to trades and skills giving them that foundation teaching them how to fish instead of giving them a fish.
I specialize in bringing the best out of my students by meeting them where them at and allowing them to find out through falling don’t mean you fail get back up and let’s go but this time were doing this together.
I’m known as getting the job done. I’m proud to be alive and black. being on the go and making a difference i use to be part of the problem now I’m part of the solution
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I stay in my feelings
