Life & Work with Rachel Linkwald

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Linkwald.

Rachel Linkwald

Hi Rachel, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I’ve always been passionate about a variety of arts… ironically, photography wasn’t one of them. I did love the visual arts but made my living performing. Still, I needed a gap filler, and a friend introduced me to a photography company. I learned hard and fast on the job. Over time, I gained skill and passion and discovered this medium allowed me to bring balance to the rest of my life.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
For sure, there have been struggles. When I started out, I had very little confidence. Which made sense, as I had very little skill. So, like everyone, I thought I’d make up for it by charging very little. As I gained my bearings in the medium, I started to do my math and realized I was actually LOSING money for my family. I had to charge more, and I had to up my game to make sure my product was worth it.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in creating finished photographic artwork. We focus on quality, not quantity. We ask the questions: What are your goals?: What do you want your family to see daily? What do you want to pass down to future generations? We take your selected images all the way, from custom Photoshop and gallery design to installation. You will ultimately have something stunning, that can actually be passed down, and I make the whole process easy.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Figure out where you are going in all things. Certainly, in your business. And then that’s what I do for my clients. Because I realized we’re wasting a lot of time doing things “just because,” whether it’s how we price our work, or whether we’re taking a bunch of random pictures because we think we should. You can create magic if you have direction.
