Life & Work with Rachel Mazza

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Mazza.

Hi Rachel, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started my career as a makeup artist in New York City. There I was able to train and work with some of the top industry professionals and work multiple seasons of New York Fashion Week. I was looking for a change and moved to Atlanta in 2018 and was determined to make a spot for myself in a space that’s full of so many talented creatives. Shortly after, I began working in print, commercial, bridal, and special events makeup in the metro Atlanta area and was recognized by my work being published in magazines including Harpers Bazaar UK. My journey as a makeup artist has been assisted so much by my strong community ties in the industry and so in 2020, I launched the Lipstick Biddies Podcast to create my own community full of education and fun for beauty professionals. Since 2020, Lipstick Biddies has blossomed into an incredible space for creatives to connect and learn from one another. I host both in person and virtual meetups with people across the globe and connecting through the humor of everyday occurrences in the beauty industry has been extremely valuable. I aim to inspire people to follow their dreams and help pull back the curtain to amplify voices in the industry that may have smaller platforms and those that are up and coming superstars!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
My road has definitely had some bumps in it, but I have been so driven to become a leader and educator in the community that every message I receive from one of the Biddies keeps me pushing on. Moving from NYC to Atlanta with zero support and knowing no one either personally or professionally was a huge challenge. However, I’m a believer that if one door closes, there’s probably a window in the back you can sneak into! I do all the work for my makeup career and Lipstick Biddies by myself and so shouldering projects can sometimes lead to burnout. The way I combat this is to try to take time for myself to reconnect with nature and spend time in the beautiful outdoors that the city has to offer.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am most known for my podcast and community platform, Lipstick Biddies, which is truly my baby. I have found a way to connect with complete strangers over Instagram and TikTok through funny videos, skits, and memes about the makeup, beauty, and film industry that many of us deal with daily. I have a background in comedy and it has always been my first love so being in front of the camera now instead of behind the scenes has really lit me up. I love being able to interview such talented, inspirational creatives for the podcast and love that it is truly interactive with my audience. I also speak up for the little guy and am very outspoken about the unethical practices some artists in the industry have in order to educate both artists and clients on the best way to attract clients and look out for the most informed makeup artists to book for their event. The thing I hear most from people is that something I posted made their day or made them laugh when they weren’t feeling great. That’s what keeps me going!

What does success mean to you?
I define success in making an impactful difference in someone’s life. Whether that’s creating an incredible makeup for a Bride and seeing her look in the mirror so happy on her wedding day or making someone laugh at a silly meme. Being able to truly inspire, educate, and create content that people can communicate with one another through to help us connect more. People knowing who you are and what you stand for when you are in or out of a room I find to be truly successful people.
