Today we’d like to introduce you to Ricardo Wrice.
Hi Ricardo, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
From a child, I have always had two passions. One was education. I found myself in spaces where I was allowed to empower and educate the “underdogs” like myself. As a youth, I didn’t always value education. I graduated from high school, and started a technical college immediately. After the first semester, I received a full scholarship. By my second semester, I had lost that scholarship and dropped out of school. It would be almost three years before I would return. Once I returned, I graduated and went on to receive my Associate’s, Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctorate.
My second passion was entertainment. I have always enjoyed making people laugh and being the funny guy. I also was a very artsy kid. From gifted in music to community plays, the spotlight always found me. In 2017, I landed a radio show on Love 860am and from there everything took off. In the coming years, I would create a television show, two podcast, a magazine and create a media empire.
I am currently the CEO of the Leadership Blend Media Company and I also teach second grade at an Atlanta charter school.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My path hasn’t always been easy. However, the lessons that I have learned are invaluable. One of the hardest lessons I’ve had to learn was that individualism is okay. The notion that going against the status quo is a gift and it must be explored. For years, I suffered with Imposter Syndrome. Despite being successful in many spaces, I never felt good enough nor worthy of compliments. It took some years to finally realize that I was the gift and any space that I walked in was lucky to have me. I also began to better understand that trailblazing is a rare gift and its rewards far out way the struggle.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Primarily, I have my own media network. It consist of a politics show with my co-host Simone Price (The Leadership Blend Live Podcast), a one-on-one interview show that spotlights leaders in all sectors (Blendblazers podcast), and most recently a live talk show (The Dr. Ricky Show). My brand specializes in spotlighting new change agents, celebrating the arts, and leading hard conversations from major events and headlines. Secondary, I teach second grade. I started as a substitute, and two years later I moved up to a co-teacher. This current year, I became a lead teacher in second grade. It has to be one of my proudest moments watching a group of kids assigned to me, grow and excel!
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Nobody ever believes that I am a comedian at heart. I genuinely love to see people laugh and just enjoying life. Even in my brand, I tend to mix our heavier conversations with some light hearted humor to even it out.
