Life & Work with Ro.Sa Sunflower of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ro.Sa Sunflower

Ro.Sa, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Most of my family is musically inclined so we can say it really started in my DNA! But my personal journey started in a small Haitian church in Florida as a kid. I officially chose music in high school, diving into choir and musical theatre, which led to a degree in Vocal Performance. That’s where I trained in classical singing, performed internationally for the first time, and eventually became Ro.Sa! I immediately began writing and performing unreleased songs at festivals and shows around Florida and released my first song in 2019! A few years later, I moved to Atlanta, 4 months in- landed an international gig touring with Lil Yachty for like 2 years, then dropped my first EP, TranscenDance! Now, I’m gearing up to release my second! The first single drops on April 13th this year, so keep on the look out!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My journey has been a story, but Character development doesn’t happen without challenges! Being independent means investing in yourself, believing in yourself, and staying consistent—no matter how you feel, because life doesn’t pause. There are always bills to pay and room to grow, learn, and level up. It’s like being in a constant state of working out—struggle is part of the process! It’s about what you do with it. Losing my mom and having my life completely change right before going on the biggest tour I’ve ever experienced was tough; especially since she was also a singer and always believed in this dream for me. While I was grateful and happy to have gotten the opportunity, I was still mourning. Many times I habitually was going to call her to tell her about my day, just to remember the reality. A definite rollercoaster…But my sisters and my close friends held me up and still hold me up when needed. Through it all—life, people, the ups and downs—I’ve grown into the Artist, businesswoman, and person I am today, and I’m honestly grateful for it. Plus, I honestly still feel my mom’s energy and guidance often!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a singer/songwriter, dancer, actress, and now the MD and Star of a Black woman-led feature film rock opera! Like my fellow Floridian Doechii said, ‘I’m everything!’ But at my core, I specialize in singing and songwriting. What sets me apart is my eclectic approach to artistry and dance music. My last EP leaned into Futuristic House, but now, fully embracing my culture and who I am, I’m blending my Haitian roots with full-on rave music! If there’s one thing I’m known for, it’s being unapologetically me!

I’m most proud of my willpower and work ethic, but accomplishment-wise, I’m especially proud of finding a strong and healthy team to grow with—both personally and professionally. Releasing my first EP and dance visual right after touring with Lil Yachty, all while building a real fanbase in real life (not just online) and mourning my mom? Yeah…I’m beyond proud of myself and my squad.

What were you like growing up?
I’ve always been a blend of girly pop and tomboy—charismatic, expressive, and always singing. My mom had me singing “My Heart Will Go On” constantly (Haitians love Celine Dion), but my favorites were always the tracks from Pocahontas. I loved video games, watching anime, spending quality time with my siblings, dancing, modeling; just anything creative, from choreographing praise team and color guard to drawing manga in my sketch book. I was constantly absorbing different cultures, observing people and music, and effortlessly mimicking styles for fun—simply because I loved the variety of sounds and languages. Performing has always felt natural to me, but stepping up as the first from my hometown to compete in Miss Florida USA? That’s when my journey as a full-fledged businesswoman truly began.
