Life & Work with Ryan Jay Phillips

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Jay Phillips.

Hi Ryan Jay, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I became interested in the event industry when I was very young! My grandmother and some of our close family friends taught me about hospitality, entertaining and design. When I was old enough to start working, I knew I wanted to do something in the event industry. I found out later that I thrive when I have the opportunity to design special events and weddings. I have the opportunity to work with some of the most amazing vendors and clients which makes my job that much more fun!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Just like so many other small businesses, specifically in the event industry, we have had to overcome some obstacles! We tried to use those struggles as learning experiences and try to keep a positive attitude moving forward!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Navy & Jay specialized in weddings and events + florals and design. We truly care about the design, look, cohesion and atmosphere of our client’s events. We spend countless hours creating detailed and timeless events and designs. Recently our team expanded and we are able to offer more services and larger scale event designs. Justin McConnell has been in the floral and event industry for many years and we are so thankful he is now part of Navy & Jay!

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
The wedding industry is constantly growing and evolving over the years. There’s always room for new ideas, luxury vendors, specialized rentals and activities, creatives and talents. I am so excited to see what Navy & Jay and our fellow wedding vendors come up with in the next 5-10 years!
