Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara-Maya Hans.
Hi Sara-Maya, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am a paramedical tattooer at Pink Goblin Tattoo & Piercing in Athens, GA. My journey started 2 years ago when I told my boss, Kim Deakins, that I wanted to start tattooing. She encouraged me to look into paramedical tattooing and that encouragement has completely changed my life. I now specialize in gender affirming care through my paramedical tattoos. I have help many people regain a sense of normalcy through huge life milestones and I am so thankful to be doing this work.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My boss and mentor, Kim Deakins, has been exceptionally supportive through this journey. I could not have done it without her. Otherwise, everything has really fallen into place. It’s very much a “I am on the right path” scenario!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in creating realistic 3D areolas, 3D navels, and nipple graft repigmentation and reshaping. Not a lot of folks in cosmetic/paramedical tattooing emphasize it’s use as gender affirming care. I strive to create a safe space for all folks to feel like their most fullfilled self, and to be comfortable in their own skin.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
The love and support of my mentor and peers here at the studio have been life changing. I also have to give a shoutout to Tina Davies Collective for being a great resource and Vanessa Dougherty of Restorative Permanent Makeup in La Jolla, CA for taking my 3D game to the next level with her educational videos.
