Life & Work with Sean Simmons of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sean Simmons

Hi Sean, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Paper Chasin Youngans or PCY as we often abbreviate is an entertainment collective started by me and artist Pcy Fatz , although we’re based in Atlanta I’m originally from Detroit, MI. and Fatz is from Baltimore, MD. Since both our parents had somewhat of a split custody agreement our friendship continued to grow while spending time in our respective cities. The business started cause I’ve always had the mentality that it’s easier to win as a team and with allot of lost but always allot to say Fatz felt he had a story to tell so I wanted one place where we could all work towards a similar goal so in November we started the label. Although I said I wanted a team it still started as a 2 man project eventually I brought in Chicago based Artist “Luh Blick” and another Atlanta based artist “Tekc” so since January of this year we’ve been releasing music under our imprint totaling 3 projects and about 30 songs in 7 months with me as the primary engineer ,executive producer and graphic designer our team also extends to our videographers & photographers Thomas Smith & Julian Smith (no relation) we are yet to release a music video but we have tested the waters and I plan to release many during the tail end of this year.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s hard to say as a collective we’ve faced many roadblocks just given how new we are but the biggest thing for me personally is just not being took as serious as other entrepreneurs but I don’t let it affect me much I just look at KVH with riteorwrong ent Or P with QC they did it I feel like i can.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My main role is to put a higher thought process behind everything we release I mix & master all of our songs I help chose the order the projects I also pay for all promotions, playlisting plus live performances out of pocket and while our music videos are done in house I edit those too. I also help with album covers overall my artist still have full creative control I just try and help to make the final product as best as it can be.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned and what I try to tell my artist is blocking out the noise.. People always have something to say and allot of times it’s not even fair criticism or a genuine gripe it’s just trying to take you down so sometimes you can’t listen to what everybody says of course be willing to listen and learn and improve yourself but take certain things with a grain of salt.
