Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannon Mitchell
Hi Shannon , we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My name is Shannon and I am originally from Brooklyn, New York.
I started braiding hair for my movie money and (jellies) shoes when I was 10 because my mother said that was a specialty.
I knew that I wanted to make my schedule and help people look good in the process, I had a gift that I discovered at a very young age and decided to embark on it in many different ways. I accomplished my 1st license as a Master cosmetologist in my early 20s and decided to obtain my other licenses, Master barber and educator.
I owned a salon in Stone Mountain, GA for 17 years, and one in Johns Creek for 10 years.
I knew that one day I would own a school, because of the passion I have for educating and giving back to my community. Especially those who are seeking a career in the beauty industry.
The biggest thing for me is when you say you have a passion for something you may not always know how to get where you need to go. My job is to direction and guidance as well as build confidence while attending classes every day.
I also have a BA in psychology and a minor in childhood education which allows me to counsel my students, and educate clients about my industry.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, Nothing is a smooth road and it should never be. Blood sweat and tears, I put in the work and it was well worth it, I appreciate it more. At one time, a very serious entity had come against my business and me, and because of who I am and what I stand for quitting was never an option.
Everything is a lesson and you should learn from it, never believe, always know.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
33.3 BARBER AND BEAUTY ACADEMY
We are a trading school, a post-secondary school. My job is to train master barbers, cosmetologists, nail techs, estheticians, and student instructors for their licenses in the beauty industry.
We educate clients on products. We follow a curriculum that trains in how to recognize diseases and disorders so that we can protect the client and our families.
Our industry is very demanding and I am proud of my students for graduating on time and going to work in a productive salon or barber shop directly after graduation or before.
What sets me apart is the energy and atmosphere every time you walk into the building. The place is created for you to succeed.
What matters most to you?
My students and family. This is all I have, material things never mattered, and we can get that by working for what it is you want.
I love and enjoy creating memories, this is for days when you are not at 100. you have those memories in your thoughts that can help you get through a rough time.
