Life & Work with Skyler Reed

Today we’d like to introduce you to Skyler Reed.

Skyler Boardley

Hi Skyler, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have been singing all my life and knew early on I wanted to be a singer. I did not know what kind of journey to expect, but I was a risk taker by moving to LA right after graduating college. I am classically trained artist, and I love creating R&B/Soul music. I dabbled in operas before honing my artistry. Atlanta has been my home for the past 7 years. Shortly after moving here, I established my music lesson business, where I’ve vocal coached singers literally all over the world. It’s been a blessing to be able to share my love of music.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Absolutely not. Lol! I think my biggest struggle now is merging into a more administrative role for my studio. Finding dedicated teachers who are looking to stay on for a long-term period is challenging. I just accomplished a big release as an artist, which was a struggle getting out. Releasing music is no easy feat. There are so many components to it, and as an independent artist, it is on me to execute.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I sing! I’ve created a life around music. I can sing many genres, like classical, pop, jazz, and gospel. R&B/Soul has been my forte. I have been songwriting since age 12, and I take pride in penning all my songs. I’m most proud of being able to write impactful songs that inspire people. What sets me apart, I believe, is my ability to truly emote with the song in performance. I often cover songs, and with my experience singing classical, I had to deliver songs in different languages. Regardless the language, the message is felt. On May 24th, I relased my EP, Note 2 Self. I’m really excited about this body of work!

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
A ball of energy. A bright-eyed dreamer who was truly excited to conquer the world. I was fearless and always very curious about music, to the point I did an independent study of music theory in high school. I was always interested in singing, but there was a time I did a play in high school. I never took acting too seriously but enjoyed being a part of the drama club. I was athletic and did cheer and track.
