Today we’d like to introduce you to Sofia Moussier.
Hi Sofia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey officially started when I branched off to college back in 2015-16. I found some creative freedom and began my own clothing brand, Soreem, in March of 2016. Soreem derives from one of my nicknames, “Reem” and is defined as being carefree. From the very beginning, my brand has been for the voiceless, the bold, the unique, and the carefree spirits with still resonates in the present. I’ve learned a lot, failed a ton that has gotten me to this point as a fashion designer. I took a three years hiatus and came back this year with a total rebrand and finally found my style as a designer. There’s still learning to do, as we know in life, but I’m grateful.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not always been smooth. I used to be very impatient and discouraged in the beginning because I made it all about sales. When you make your passion a business, you may find yourself focusing on the business aspect way more than the why behind why you started in the first place. I’ve gotten to the point where I’ve made designing fun for myself again. I’m doing it how I want to do it. I’m not primarily focuses on the money, I’m just creating just to create. If people like it enough to purchase then great. I’m moving into a more exclusive, custom space. Everything I do now is extremely limited on purpose.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a fashion designer and all-around creative originally from Romulus, Michigan. I specialize in avant-garde designs and modeling. I’ve done everything under the sun creatively so many know the different avenues I’ve been in depending on the said chapter of my life (dance, modeling, designing, etc). I think I’m most proud of my resilience through it all.
What are your plans for the future?
I can’t speak on too much, but to make this show I’m planning (Everything Weird) bigger than what it is now. To design for some of my favorite artists as well.
