Today we’d like to introduce you to Star.
Hi Star, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I fell in love with music at a very young age. I was maybe about 6 when I joined the choir at church. I loved singing and performing and I just knew then that I wanted to be an artist. As I got older music became an outlet for me and I used it to cope with life. I started writing my own music at about 12. All of my early music was R&B music which I sang with the exception of one rap. I later performed that rap song for my dad and he loved it so much that he booked me my first studio session to record it. At the time, I didn’t have a good support system or team behind me so the song was never released. Life started hitting hard at that point and music was no longer in the forefront. I was struggling through homelessness, heartbreak, and a lack of self-love and confidence. I had reached my heaviest weight of 322 and I was extremely unhappy. At that moment, I reached a turning point in my life. In the past, I had blamed my circumstances and the things that I had gone through for my unhappiness. I began to take accountability for my decisions and I shifted my focus to myself. In 2016 I went vegan and lost 150 pounds on my own. I began to love myself again. My confidence skyrocketed and I regained control of my life. I got back into music and my story and the things I’ve been through became my message. I opened up my business Stargalaxiii, LLC to help others just like me who lacked self-love and confidence. I am now an advocate of self-love. Through my music and my business, I aspire to help as many people as possible find themselves and take control of their life just as I did years ago.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Life has never been smooth for me. However, through faith and perseverance, I am a victor and not a victim. I struggled for a long time with confidence so I was afraid to put myself out there because I didn’t know who I was or what my worth was! Accountability is also a big one. A lot of times we look outside ourselves for the answer when really we have the answers inside of us. So In those instances in the past where I blamed everything else for the reason I wasn’t successful in music or anything else. The truth was that I was not showing up for myself as I should have. Those struggles have become strengths and I’ve learned to appreciate those lessons even more. I wouldn’t be who I am today if I hadn’t experienced those moments. So I am grateful.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I write, record, produce and release my own music. My technical background has really given me a leg up when it comes to recording and knowing my way around the studio. My music is relatable to people on all walks of life who have gone through something. I am most proud of my willingness to succeed and my continued evolution in music. I get better with every song I record and my message is the same. No matter what you go through in life things can change if you continue to love yourself and put YOU first consistently. I don’t believe that you have to betray yourself in order to make good music so I will never do that. Stay tuned for the next single from my album “Me Over Everything” scheduled to drop this summer.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
My favorite book right now is “Iyanla Vazant – Until Today” it really helps you through those dark moments and it helps you find confidence as you push forward spiritually. I am more of a spiritual person so meditation is my biggest resource. It allows me to quiet my mind and gain clarity on a daily basis.
