Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie King.
Hi Stephanie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Well, I currently am a teacher in Houston County. My passion is teaching kids how to read and helping them become lifelong learners. I am married to Kenneth King and we have a son named Stephen. He lives in New York. He is a model and a clothing designer. I consider myself to be a creative person. I’m always creating, designing, or thinking of ways to make things in my life better. That’s how this process of Peek-a-Boo Gloves got started. I’m very excited about this creative phase of my life and I cannot wait to see where it takes me.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has definitely not been smooth. It’s been rocky trying to find the right company to manufacture my gloves and trying to make sure my vision of what and how I wanted my gloves to look came to fruition. It’s definitely been a struggle trying to make sure my brand was protected before I even started to sell my product. Another challenge I’ve faced along the way is the realization that everyone is not going to support or be in my corner rooting for me. That’s been one of the hardest part of this journey. However, I’ve learned from it and it has caused me to focus even more on building my brand and making sure I do what needs to be done to get my business to the next level.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
The work that I’ve done with my gloves has been a labor of love. I’m just excited to be a contributing member of society with a product that i think bemefits all women. I’ve carefully selected the best fabric, bold colors, and texting capabilities for this seasons new drop. This idea has taken years to get to this point. Would you believe that I got the idea from working out at the gym? I was having difficulty wearing my ring and weight-lifting gloves. I had to decide to either not wear my wedding ring or risk getting calluses on my hands and not wear my workout gloves. One day I got home from the gym, grabbed a pair of scissors, cut a small slit in the ring finger of my workout glove and viola….. that’s how the idea of Peek-a-Boo Gloves came about. I believe it’s my work ethic that’s gotten me this far and I believe that it will continue to push me into greatness.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
OMG yes. Covid taught me that at any given moment circumstances could change. I began to realize even more how important family, love, and friendships are. I learned that strong people like myself can have moments of doubt, low self-esteem, and vulnerabilities. However, during the covid crisis, I learned how strong and determined of a person I really was. I began to enjoy all the big and small accomplishments in my life and I also began to learn from my failures.
