Life & Work with Suzette & Oualid Aouled Ali of Roswell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Suzette & Oualid Aouled Ali.

Hi Suzette & Oualid, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Language is Our Love Language:

When we first met, it wasn’t just our eyes that met it was our words. At the time, Suzette was helping Oualid perfect his English, while Oualid was helping Suzette with her French. What began as simple language practice quickly turned into something more meaningful. Conversation after conversation, lesson after lesson, we discovered not only each other’s languages, but also each other’s worlds.
Little by little, we fell in love.

Looking back, language was always at the center of our story. It allowed us to connect, understand one another, and build something meaningful together. In many ways, language became our love language.

Why We Started Azul?
Our shared passion for languages eventually led us to create Azul Learning Institute. We had experienced firsthand how powerful language learning can be ,not just as an academic skill, but as a way to connect people from different backgrounds and cultures.

We wanted to create a place where others could experience that same transformation. To us, teaching a language is not just about grammar rules or vocabulary lists. It’s about opening doors, building confidence, and helping people feel comfortable communicating with the world around them.

More Than Words:
Even in our own native languages, communication can sometimes be difficult. Misunderstandings happen every day. Now imagine the challenge when two people don’t share a common language at all.

Learning another language helps break down those walls. It teaches patience, curiosity, and understanding. More importantly, it helps us see the human being behind the language barrier.
Through language learning, we can:
See the person, not the barrier. Despite our different cultures, backgrounds, or beliefs, we often share the same hopes and dreams.

Bridge our differences:
What may seem like differences can actually become opportunities to learn from each other.
Practice empathy. Learning a language teaches us to listen carefully and to understand perspectives beyond our own.

At Azul Learning Institute, our mission is simple: to bring people together through language and culture.

We believe that when people take the time to learn each other’s languages, they also begin to understand each other’s stories. And when we understand each other better, the world becomes a little smaller, and a lot more connected.

For us, Azul is more than a school. It is a community where everyone is welcome, respected, and encouraged to grow

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting our business was not an easy path. We built Azul Learning Institute from the ground up using our own savings and a lot of determination.
In the beginning, we didn’t have the resources to hire professionals to help us with everything that needed to be done. Instead, we decided to learn as much as we could ourselves. From designing and building our own website to understanding the many layers of running a business, every step became a learning experience.

We quickly realized that starting a school also meant learning the language of business. Marketing, accounting, the hiring process, and sales were all new territories for us. Little by little, we taught ourselves how to navigate each of these areas. Like many small business owners, we found ourselves wearing many hats and constantly adapting to new challenges.
Although the journey has not always been easy, it has been incredibly rewarding. Each obstacle has helped us grow, both as entrepreneurs and as individuals.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
At Azul Learning Institute, we specialize in teaching languages in a way that is practical, supportive, and culturally meaningful. As multilingual educators, we bring our own language-learning experiences into the classroom. We continue to learn new languages ourselves, which helps us stay connected to the process our students are going through.
We strongly believe that teaching a language also requires an understanding of other languages and cultures. Being multilingual allows us to recognize patterns between languages and to explain concepts in ways that are easier for students to understand.
Because we have personally experienced the challenges of learning new languages, we are able to better understand our students’ struggles and guide them with patience and empathy. Learning a language that is completely different from the one you are used to can be difficult, and we know that firsthand.
What we are most proud of is creating an environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes, practicing, and building confidence. Our goal is not only to teach languages, but also to help people feel empowered to communicate and connect with others.
What sets us apart is our multilingual perspective and our passion for continuous learning. We are not only teachers, we are also lifelong language learners.
