Today we’d like to introduce you to Tahjae Anglin
Tahjae , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started my journey as a music producer back in 2023 of July. At first I had the vision but I did not have the resources, my passion for music started when I was in high school in Jamaica where I was a DJ at the time. I played multiple gigs at my high school like class parties and concerts. Throughout that time period of high school with “Di Genius”, “Russian”,”Jahvy Ambassador” as my biggest inspiration, my passion and drive for the music world grew stronger so I wanted to explore in spaces where I could get more creative and showcase what I had so I told myself I had to become a music producer. After high school the laptop I used for music broke, it wasn’t even my laptop it was my sisters , really couldn’t afford one at the time so I had to borrow hers. When that happen I was devastated and I felt like giving up on my passion because the drive I had was gone. As time past I tried to source one but couldn’t so I eventually gave up on everything.
In 2023 I migrated to the US at the age of 19, I didn’t have a job or any source of income. At that time I was trying to figure what was the next step in life for me but In the back of my head I still wanted to be a music producer, I just didnt have the resources. I even tried making beats on my phone and it never worked out in my favor. I had to think to myself on what I want to do if I was gonna stay beaten and discouraged or risk it all for my dreams. So I took a risk, I asked my older brother to borrow the money to purchase a refurbished laptop (MACBOOK) I saw. It was questioned by him on if this is something I really wanted or it was an infatuation, which it wasn’t so plead with him and he eventually helped.
Purchasing a laptop was one thing but understanding the craft was another. I had spend days, weeks, sleepless nights trying to understand the fundamentals of becoming a producer and making beats. I have reached to multiple upcoming producers that started before I did thinking that they’ll help but they didn’t. This is a dog eat dog thing, I had to teach myself everything I know from researching, watching videos and practicing. Throughout that time I’ve made a couple decent beats, I wasn’t as good but I was uplifted by the people who supported me, my family and friends. With teaching myself everything I just kept making beats and practicing my craft. After a few months has past I had gotten recognition from one of my favorite artiste “Valiant” which I came through a mutual friend “Moji Diplomat’. Even though I didn’t land a placement that gave me a lot of encouragement to continue and to become better because I knew I had a place in the industry.
In early 2024 I made the track “Spiritual Soul Riddim” inspired by my grandmother who passed away. That track/Project became my break through to the industry where I landed placements including one of dancehall legends “Laden” with his track named “Rocky Road”, following up with other artiste as Jae Prynse, Blizzi Italian, Sliva Advil, Lucan Majesty, SkillCold, PalmDan and of dancehall current trending artiste “Pablo Yg” remixing “Jae Prynes” track “Goals” giving the track and the whole project a boost to the dancehall audience/market. After that breakthough, I landed a huge placement with the artist “Pablo Yg” we do have an unreleased track titled “Killa ute” that we don’t have a set released date for as yet.
Currently I’m just working on becoming better at what I do and mastering my craft.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No it wasn’t
I struggled with keeping the drive for my passion
I had financial struggles
I struggled with learning the fundamental of becoming a music producer cause I didn’t have a mentor
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a music producer who make beats and compose tracks to the best of my ability and I also do write songs.
I’m known for a lot of things but mostly on how I compose my beats, whenever I make beats I don’t just follow trends. Even if I choose to go with the wave of the culture I try to incorporate my own unique sound to it to create something different.
I’m mostly proud of how much I’ve grown as a person, the determination and courage I had, I’m also proud of the work that I’ve done because my creativity towards my music expand a lot
what sets me apart is how I make my music, I make music based upon emotions and energy, whatever I feel I try to put that in my tracks whether I use a instrument or vocal samples to express that
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love The Music Culture
I’m not a fan of the violence in the city
