Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamara Spencer.
Hi Tamara, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Since I was a child, I have loved art. Seeing my Dad draw and sketch things all the time made me interested in creating. I can remember always running to my Dad to help me with any homework/project that included drawing, coloring, or painting. I love combining colors, I could always find something and repurpose it or make something from scratch. Growing into my adult years, I was painting and creating more because of how peaceful the experience was. It came to be my form of therapy. I love that my works are truly one of a kind
and made from the heart.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I can honestly say that it has been a smooth road for me thus far. It has only been two years but a positive journey. I don’t create for demand, I create when I feel. I like that I can take my time with everything that I make. The right people will see my work at the right time.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a mixed media artist. My most popular items are handmade ceramic coasters, resin phone grips, paintings, and end tables. I can honestly say that I am most proud of my coasters. I always get complimented on the style and colors at events and I love when someone welcomes my art into their space. The uniqueness of my crafts sets me apart. Having only been creating consistently for the past two years, I have a lot to learn and I’m looking forward to growing.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
Having recently relocated from NYC, I love the quietness of my area here in Georgia. I was ready to leave the hustle and bustle of city life behind. I like that there’s always something new to explore/try. Being an NY’er, I would say the thing I miss most is the many forms of transportation. Everything here is spaced out and it then makes connections hard. I try to network at least twice a month at events to balance it out.
