Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiara Sims.
Hi Tiara, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Tiara, better known as Tiny. I am a 30 year old entrepreneur by day and the mother to my four year-old son 24/7.
My interest in becoming a make up artist started with me, trying to mask my insecurities to make myself feel more beautiful. With quite a bit of practice and lots of trial and error , I began to notice that my techniques and application processes were improving and it gave me more confidence not only in building myself esteem, but potentially doing makeup as a hobby.
I began to practice doing make up for my sisters, cousins and close friends. As my skill level increased, I started getting tips and getting paid for my services. It was at that moment, I realized that I wanted to be a makeup artist full-time.
I established TinyOnTheBeat at the of age 23. I have been up and running and perfecting my craft ever since. You can find me at Forever Beauty Suites located at 1577 Mount Zion Rd in Morrow, Georgia.
Feel free to visit my business page on Instagram @TinyontheBeat or on TikTok @TinyontheBeat to see some of my most recent work.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Over the last seven years I faced many obstacles. I’ve battled having to maintain reasonable prices for quality work. Increases in booth rent and finding an adequate location to better serve my clients in a competitive market.
During Covid, there was an influx of make up artist in the area. With people not going into work and having more money to spend, the makeup business was great to say the least. However, post Covid while still battling inflation, booth rent increases and a slight decline in clientele due to limited funds, I’ve still managed to thrive by making adjustments to my marketing strategies, promoting myself on social media, and even providing my clients with generous discounts to keep them coming through the door.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I consider myself to be an all-around make up artist. But I specialize in natural makeup.
One attribute that I am most proud of is how I went from using make up to build my own confidence, then turning it into a lucrative business that allows me enhance the beauty of all my clients.
I’m proud of myself for overcoming the obstacles that I’ve endured throughout my time doing make up . I enjoy seeing the smiles on my clients faces as they are pleased with my work. It makes it all worthwhile.
How do you define success?
My definition of success is knowing that I’ve given my all into building my brand. Taking my brand from being the sole proprietor to owning my own salon suites where I can continue to do what I love, make good money and mentor. All the up-and-coming make up artist seeking my tutelage.
Simply put being financially free , and doing what I love to do.
