Life & Work with Timeasha Bailey of Murphy,NC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Timeasha Bailey

Hi Timeasha, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started photography at 11 years old. I LOVED taking photos even if it was just of myself. Something about posing people and creating a fun space spoke to my heart. Not only did it help me create it helped make great memories! I was still doing “styled shoots” into my early 20s then life got busy and I didn’t do anything with photography for about 3 years. In 2021 I got engaged and I was so excited, given my love for photography I couldn’t wait to have photos done with my now husband. I started an ambassadorship with a photographer close to my home town where I was offered a free session. Once we got the photos back I was so disappointed. I only received 4 images and they were awful except one my skin was dark and my partner looked washed out. After that I vowed to go into business and provide an experience rather than a “Let me buy a camera and make money”. Photography (even as a hobby) is so much more than a point and shoot type of art. Every time we press that button there has to be intention behind it. Images are one of the most important parts of history. They give a type of proof and preservation that is priceless. This drives me to improve my skills constantly and never leave someone feeling how I did about something so special.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been ok, going into business is A LOT different than posing a friend or cousin. It’s a big responsibility. I did a lot of free/cheap sessions to build a portfolio. That coupled with being back in a small town has made it difficult to charge my worth. Other photographers see this small area as a competition, but luckily I have made some AMAZING friends along the way. One of the worst experiences I had was second shooting. I was so excited because it was at one of my favorite venues but the lead photographer never gave me my images like he promised. I have since second shot at this venue twice with an amazing lead. I also had the opportunity to photograph the annual Chamber of Commerce dinner. So the good definitely outweighs the bad.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a portrait photographer and I specialize in creative portraits and weddings. I’m known for my quality and heartfelt images. I also post a lot of self portraits so I’m noticed most times just from people seeing me on local pages. I’m most proud of the very thing that sets me apart, my drive. I have spent the last 2+ years building my skills and learning the ins and outs of photography. Photography is my passion, I want everyone no matter where they come from or who they are to feel beautiful. I’m also proud to be working with a local magazine!

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
They biggest lesson I’ve learned is to be patient with myself and to appreciate myself as an artist.
