Life & Work with Trejon Khalil

Today we’d like to introduce you to Trejon Khalil.

Trejon Khalil

Hi Trejon, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Everything happened with a simple question… “Will you be my manager…?” coming from my closest peer and artist, “Trvpbeez.” During that time, I was an English major in college and knew nothing of the music business. Yet, due to my strong will to hustle and get things done, he believed I was capable. Therefore, I felt honored to give it a shot.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No roads is ever smooth. When it comes to working towards your dreams, goals, and ambitions, it is an inevitability to face trials of any magnitude. From finding the right people to work within the music industry, working with egos and different perspectives, to even self-esteem, not feeling good enough or qualified to continue the pursuit. As creators, it’s our mission to rejoice in the minor wins just as much as the major accolades while also appreciating every hiccup, obstacle, and trial you will face.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am my trade an artist manager, while also in the process of building my small music label “WTF Music Group”. Aside from running the day-to-day activities for my artist and booking events, I also dabble in music marketing. Being able to watch my artist (also my close friend) grow as a musician and a man is one of greatest achievements. I feel as though fellow peers within the industry are using the same format, template, and trends in order to meet some low tier standards, but with myself, I take pride in my creative advantages over others, you could consider myself a culture-meister.

From pop culture to contemporary art, I have a vision that exceeds the status quo, especially when it comes to incorporating it into not only my brand but anyone who collaborates with me. Lastly, I live by code of honor and integrity, for some reason that’s more of a myth in this world, but with my team and myself, it is the standard.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Do your research on the succession people who shares your professional. A mentor isn’t always someone you can see in person, but someone who has done the work made the mistakes and found their way beyond the tough path. I HIGHLY recommend reading books/ listening to audiobooks, watching podcasts, or informative YouTube videos to give yourself enough info to confirm which type of face-to-face mentor you’d want to have.

Networking to me is simple: just go out there, don’t create a script, and be as genuine and organic as possible. When it comes to networking, seldom do others want to be “sold” something, we always to be engaged with authenticity. Have your social media polished and have business cards. You’d be shocked how many opportunities I’ve had just by being more prepared than the next individual.
