Today we’d like to introduce you to Trevor Rogers
Hi Trevor, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Louisiana, the Bayou state.
I started taking an interest in acting back in high school. I competed in a Shakespeare competition on a dare from a friend, and I fell in love with performing. After that, I got involved with community theatre and decided I wanted to study theatre and performing arts after high school. I was fortunate enough to receive a college scholarship playing football that opened up the doors to further my knowledge of the stage. I played for two years, working really hard to make my dreams a reality. Unfortunately, I had to move back home to Louisiana to help my family. Addiction really took a toll on all of us, especially from a young age. I started working in the restaurant industry, and did that for 8 years. I put my dreams aside and I had to provide for my mother and sisters when we did not have a father figure in our lives.
Then, on April 8th, 2023, the unthinkable happened. My 24 year sister, Halee Rogers-Hansford, passed away unexpectedly from an accidental overdose of heroin, fentanyl and meth. It shook all of us to our cores, causing me to rethink my life. Was I satisfied with my job? Was it causing me more anxiety and stress? Was I truly living?
I moved to Atlanta 2 months after her funeral. It was a tough time and I was still struggling with what I wanted to do. Right around the 1 year anniversary of her death, I decided to drop everything I was doing and get back into film/tv/theatre.
I realized that she would want me to do what makes me happy, and to put my all into it. She was one of the few people in the beginning to support me, who came to my small community theatre shows, and always enjoyed looking up to me. She would say I showed her that life doesn’t have to be miserable, and that there were ways out of the struggle.
Since that realization, my career has taken off. I’ve worked in many major motion pictures that are/were filming around Atlanta as a stand-in, photo double, stunt man, and many other jobs on set. I have 3 new credits in short films that have came out, and made many new friends and acquaintances in the industry. I am blessed beyond belief.
It’s never too late to chase your dreams. Sometimes, you have to take a risk to achieve the impossible. And you never know until you try. Thank you Halee, for instilling me with the work ethic and drive it takes to realize this. I love you!!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not. I have struggled with mental issues, depression, addiction, and lots of trauma.
I grew up in a dysfunctional environments with no one to point me the way.
I struggled with addiction, filling those voids with substances that only made it worse.
I always blamed myself for these things.
But as I got older, I realized victimhood is a mindset that only you can change.
And I did.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an actor, writer, and creative. I am specialized in Shakespeare, Meisner and Chubbuck techniques.
I am most proud of the screenplay I am writing now in my sisters memory, called “Eclipse on the Bayou.” I am excited to tell her story so everyone can know how great of a person she was.
My demeanor, wit, experiences and physical size set me apart. I am 6’4.5’’, 250 pounds. And I also have an accelerated mindset and type of wisdom that I acquired from sitting in for my parents by helping raise my sisters.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Risk is the precursor to success. You cannot fully know something until you TRY. And you may fail, but you pick up the pieces and learn from those mistakes.
I have taken many risks in my life. My success rate is getting better, but every time I learn something super important from those failures. It drives me to be a better person, partner, brother, mentor and co-star.
