Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyshawn Lee.
Hi Tyshawn, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Gary, Indiana but spent majority of my life in Southside, Atlanta. (Fulton County) Since a child, my interest in the arts was prominent. I always enjoyed media. Creating and watching media was a hobby for me. I’d binge-watch music videos and performances as a child (something I still do to this day) but honestly, God instilled something in me and he granted me the wisdom to decipher the talent I have and how to maneuver/be patient with it. I always knew I’d be a star as a child, I never imagined an average adult life.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Life has been very interesting so far. The good comes with the bad & the bad comes with the good. They’re a packaged deal and without both, we’d all be living in a fallacy. I’ve learned so much about myself and the world I belong to. I’ve had so many humiliating experiences, heartbreaking experiences, sorrow experiences, but I’d be foolish to expect a smooth travel to the top. God has blessed the hell out of me & none of my pain/trauma can even measure to what God has to come. Muthafuckas gon’ know my name!!!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’ve been a musician all my life, I’ve been a musician on display for about five years. I don’t like to limit myself and say I’m specifically a singer or rapper because I’m all that and more. I’m a visual artist. I’m always thinking outside the box. I don’t want to be like anybody else and if I am influenced, I try to embody influence in an original fashion. That’s my strong suit, I’m a chameleon & you can never go wrong with versatility. A lot of people wake up one day and decide music is the route they want to take. While there’s nothing wrong with having sporadic passion, people don’t take time to invest and develop the skill. They discover and immediately put it out for display. I began officially writing music [2014]. Recorded my first two tracks [2016]. I hated them. I knew that I had a talent there to be sculpted, but I have to sculpt it. It would be about 3-4 years till I released my next (and actual official single) “Hol Up.” One of my most notable tracks. I’m glad I actually took the time to sit on work and develop over the years. The artist development is evident and you can see & hear my evolution, especially if you’ve known me. I’m most proud of my work to come, my DEBUT EP, “Where My Lighter At?” releasing April 20th, 2022. It’s been in creation for five years and I really put my all into it. It’s my first project and I believe it will be one of the best projects new-age Atlanta has produced.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I enjoy Youtube. Youtube is endless. I enjoyed binge-watching performances by Beyoncé, Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Prince, etc… as a child and till this day, I do. You can learn so much from Youtube. We actually kinda lucked up with Youtube. What did we do to deserve such a gem?
I don’t read as many books as I should, I’m definitely an article kind of guy.
