Life & Work with Walter Fleming

Today we’d like to introduce you to Walter Fleming. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Walter Fleming is the visionary hairstylist and colorist behind some of today’s most celebrated looks in entertainment. The Memphis native who came of age fascinated with hair and a passion to cut, color, and create began pursuing his dreams at age 13. By the time he graduated high school, he was known as the go-to resource for distinctive weaves and coined The WeaveSlayer. Today the award-winning hairstylist is known for his innovative use of color, custom wigs, and A-list styling. His ability to take risks and provoke newness have made him a destination authority in Atlanta for celebrities, media personalities, magazines, film, and television projects. Think Eva Marcille, Cynthia Bailey, Porsha Williams of Bravo’s The Real Housewives of Atlanta, Tamika Scott of Xscape and Dr. Contessa Metcalf and Quad Webb of Married to Medicine, as well as Kron Moore of BET’s The Oval, created by Tyler Perry. The influential stylist’s greatest pleasures lie in transforming subjects, whether on screen or in the studio and taking on exciting new projects that challenge and fulfill him.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, not at all. Imagine having to start hair school over at 26 because your lost all your hours or Completely crushing your leg in an accident and having to take three months off just as you’re really starting to be recognized.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a celebrity hairstylist that specializes in color and wigs, I’m definitely most known for my coloring skills. The thing I would definitely be most proud of was winning bronner bros hair show in 2019.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Never give up, I know it sounds cliché but it’s true. I gave up on school at 19 and had to start completely over at 26 but I was more responsible the 2nd time around. Whatever you’re passionate about go hard for it. For two years, I worked a job from 9-5, school from 530-10, and did hair after school and before work.
