Life & Work with Whitney Douglas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Whitney Douglas.

Hi Whitney, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Originally from Columbia, SC –  In grade school, I was the girl that failed physical education because dress down for what? I would wear heels down to the baseball field and refused to dress out. I replaced it with a health elective credit, no worries. Let’s just say, I’ve been insanely committed to the look no matter the cost, for a long time LOL.
I started in the fashion industry at age 14 as a local runway and print model and later became a Modeling Camp instructor at age 18. I participated and competed in local fashion shows and business commercials. This is where my front-of-camera love started.
My pursuit of happiness started in my 2nd home, Atlanta, GA where I studied Fashion Merchandising x Business Administration at now formerly Bauder Fashion College. This is where my behind-the-camera love began. I mastered many roles such as Dresser at Atlanta Apparel Mart market fashion shows, wardrobe stylist assistant to the late and great Taijuan Wilcox, production assistant for events such as ATL Fashion Awards, GA Tech Sustainability events, and more. I also began my extensive career as Visual Display & Merchandising expert.
Fast forward to The Big Apple chapter, I learned from some of Manhattan’s best in roles such as Visual & Window Stylist at 5th Ave Flagship Lord & Taylor and as Asst Production & Events Manager with Harlem’s Fashion Row during NYFW.
Now at the helm of Wardrobe with Whitney LLC, birthed in 2019 in my under 600 ft sq apt room in Bedstuy, BK. An image and creative consulting boutique specializing in services such as executive and personal styling, fashion event production, closet organization, wardrobe education, and brand styling. Currently based out of Charlotte, NC.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No such thing as a smooth road. Life has lifed for me along my journey but at a certain point, you start to sharpen your “get back up” after so many twists and turns try to take you out. I have encountered several unforeseen challenges along the way in pursuit of my goals. My time in New York presented some of my biggest challenges to date as I became a grown woman in that era. Through it all, I can truly say I’ve been highly favored.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My life’s work has been dedicated to creating.WWW is just a 4-year-old child so this is only the beginning. Our philosophy is that great style has everything to do with personal acceptance and nothing to do with a specific price point. I work with everyday executives and professionals with their capsule wardrobes, events, workshops, small businesses, and more. I strive to continue to be a hand in shifting the mindsets of overconsumption and transitioning to a wardrobe essential-driven pallet.
In the near future, you’ll see me producing my own fashion show experience and providing a space where fashion-forward love children unite and celebrate putting their fits on. Watch me work.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Stay on ten toes in what lights their heart on fire. Be unapologetic about it and don’t allow anyone or anything to sway you differently. Study your field or expertise and do anything that aligns and provides a stepping stone to that. Fear is our biggest enemy. I’ve learned and still learning that everything we want is on the other side of that. Simply, do it ALL.
