Life & Work with Zarria Johnson of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zarria Johnson

Hi Zarria, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am Zarria Johnson, A self made hairstylist and entrepreneur. I have dominated the beauty industry for 7 years. I dropped out of college at 21 to become a full time hairstylist. I’m from a very small town in Louisiana, called Tallulah. Growing up I didn’t have much which inspired me to perfect my craft and take highly use of my talent to inspire and motivate others around my town. I’ve been homeless, broke and confused many of times. My faith is the strongest part of me, without that nothing is possible. When I first started my hair journey, it was the worst and best experience. In the winter of 2019, I watched half of the my home state bash my business because of false accusations. I questioned why would God bring me such an obstacle to overcome at the very peak of my journey. He was preparing me for everything ahead of me and I had no idea. I moved to Dallas in 2019 to continue to grow my business and clientele despite of the bad reputation my hometown wanted me to endure. After 6 months of being in Dallas, I was featured on The Shaderoom for giving a bullied girl in Louisiana a full hairstyle and makeover. Once my clientele started to grow, I knew I wanted to be bigger so I moved to LA with all faith that God would lead me in my path. I had zero clientele. My first client in LA was Eboni, a celebrity singer and songwriter. I then landed connections with LA biggest fashion guru, Maxie J, a Celebrity fashion designer and mogul. I love Maxie she was such great energy and a great teacher, I learned so much from her. I was featured as her hairstylist for her 2021 article in SHEEN Magazine. I spent 1 year in LA before moving to Houston. In October of 2022, I executed my first tour with Monaleo on Flo Milli’s, “You Still Here, Ho” Tour. We traveled to 17 cities in a 30day span. I loved the experience and would definitely do more tours. In the summer of 2023, I was headlined as a Celebrity Hairstylists for a few of CMG artists, for the BET AWARDS 2023.

January 2024 I moved to Atlanta with zero clientele. With my marketing and branding skills, I’ve gained over 100 clients and made 5 figures in under 60 days. People ask me all the time how do I move and start over so many times, but I believe if you can do it once you can do it again and again.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been an easy road at all, everyday it’s a new challenge. Whether it’s slow clientele, no place of work, a frustrating client. Being in this type of industry of work you need to expect a random test of faith. My advice will be to keep going, no matter how hard it get, without a test there is no testimony.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a professional wig and lace specialist. I also specialize in sewins, quickweaves, frontals and closure. The one of many things that I admire about myself would be my perseverance. I thrived in my passion despite the hate, backlash, negative comments and failures. However, I’ve grown to know my faith is stronger than anything I had to overcome in life.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory is when me and mom moved to Las Vegas when I was 7 years old. We moved in this 2bed room apartment and she gave me the master bedroom and decorated everything in Hannah Montana lol I was such a huge fan.
